An Arist on the Rise: Beware the Pink Pants-erHis work blankets the city with the child like whimsy of a Keith Herring, and the staunch social relevance of a young Saul Bass.
If you have been in and around the New York City area this past summer then you have undoubtedly encountered his work.
He is, what some would call a 'guerilla artist,' leaving his calling card, the 'Star Exclamation Point' where he treads.
His work is inspired by the energy of life, the world around him, expressed in its most potent forms.
I ran into the young man I later came to know as Jordan! on a particularly warm evening towards the end of May 2005, in Soho.
In the distance I saw a brightly colored blur, rapidly approaching where I was standing.
His outfit was the first thing that struck me.
He had on a black suit jacket, a neon green sweater and dark sunglasses, in spite of the coming night.
His pants, pink and silver, with various strings daggling from its sides.
Rollerblades roaring, dreadlocks blowing in the air he came to an abrupt stop near a mail box in front of me.
Without so much as looking around he reached in to his bag, pulled out a large black and white sticker, and slapped it on the side of the mailbox.
'What is that?' I inquired.
'That's me,' he replied, casually.
'And who are you?'
'I'm Jordan.'
