The Bagatti Valsecchi Museum in Milan, ItalyThe Bagatti Valsecchi Museum displays the Italian Renaissance art and decorative arts collections of Barons Fausto and Giuseppe Bagatti Valsecchi, as the brothers wished them to be seen at the end of the 19th century, so it expresses the prevailing traditional taste of the day, as well as offers important individual pieces of Italian Renaissance art and decorative arts.
Antiques, often purchased from aristocratic families, were mingled with objects and modern comforts designed by the brothers in the Renaissance style, in order to create a seamless environment "witnessing" the family's patriotism and ancient history.
The house is of special interest to artists, architects, designers and historians, as it was cited at the time as a prime example of good taste to follow.
Open from Tuesday to Sunday, the museum offers visitors information cards in all principal European languages and Japanese.
A free quarterly e-mail newsletter keeps visitors up-to-date about the museum's activities.
Currently (Fall 2006 - Spring 2007), the late 16th-early 17th century Lombard baby walker, usually in the Red Room, has been loaned to the "At Home in Renaissance Italy" exhibit at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London where, as in our museum, it is seen as a natural part of the domestic environment.
