Trame Silk International Competition
The competition's aim is to safeguard and promote St. Leucio silk production; Silk international competition, supports the tadition of design as an active skill to be located within the framework of valorixation process of the silk products and considered an insrument to point out new nterpretation canons to be enhanced towards a significant, high-quaity dimension.
General objectives The competition emphasizes the primary objective of promoting the inestimable value of the silk production of San Leucio, Caserta. The competition is addressed to fashion and interior designers in order to enhance the research of project ideas inspired by the historical context and promoting innovative and original creations.
The competition is divided into three sections: > design > fashion > textile design
Design section The most innovative creations as to shape, function and usage concepts of the items realized with the silk will be judged. The fabric will be selected from a sample available to all participants at entry.
Fashion section The works that originally combine the traditional features of the fabric and the new stylistic trends will be judged.Participants are free to select the type of dress. It can be women's or men's wear (city-wear, street-style, evening dress, etc.). It can be created with any material, as long as 60% of the final work is made with silk. Candidates can choose from the fabric proposed exclusively in the sample available at entry.
Textile design section The works that find the right harmony of colours and shapes in the pattern of the fabric, whether it follows the traditional production (damask, lampas silk, etc.) or creates an innovative representation will be examined and judged. Candidates also have the possibility to include several materials in the plait, respecting what the textile technique allows. The choice of the fabric pattern, design and colours is the candidate's.
Awards For each section of the competition (design, fashion, textile design) the following prizes will be awarded according to the incontrovertible judgement of the jury. 1st prize 1200,00 euro 2nd prize 800,00 euro 3rd prize 500,00 euro
Admission requirements The following candidates are admitted to participate: University students of Architecture, students of arts, fashion, design attending courses at Institutes, Schools and Academies, architects, designers and fashion designers with no nationality bonds. Maximum age: 40. Participants can enrol both as single and groups and be admitted to only one section and with only one work. Projects are to be unpublished and created expressively for this competition.
Entry A total number of 150 applications will be admitted (nr 50 for each section of competition). Applications must be sent within July 15, 2005. Entry can be made through online application form to be found at www.trameonline.org
The jury The Board of Examiners will judge the works in conformity with the competition regulation, taking particularly into account the originality and the aesthetic-functional features of the works, including their communication qualities. The jury is made of three experts in the design-fashion-textile design fields, one editor of a specialized magazine of the design section and representatives of the silk industry. The jury's judgement is incontrovertible and jury members have the faculty to award prizes accordingly. If and when the jury finds that no works are worth the first prize, they will indisputably award and share its amount among the remaining winning projects.
Utilization rights Once the jury has given the final results, the silk companies supporting Trame and this project have the possibility to select the winning creations and eventually other projects for possible industrial productions.
Exhibits and publications All participants will exhibit their works at the show organized at the Belvedere of San Leucio in the background of Trame competition
