Web for the Future
Can the Web improve quality of life? O-one sets the challenge with its competition "Web for the Future"
"Web for the Future" is the name of a competition directed at young creative people, computer experts and all fans of new technologies. It is being put on by O-one - a company specialized in projects and technologies for the web - with the goal of developing visions, outlooks and ideas on the web of the future and its place in our daily lives.
Until 22nd December 2005, submissions can be made for the competition at the web site. O-one is partnering for the project with the department of Communication Sciences at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and Macromedia, a worldwide leader in software for creativity and the web.
In addition receiving a prize of 1,500.00 Euro each, the three winners will become part of the "O-one lab", a lab completely dedicated to experimenting with the Web, where they will be supported by O-one's staff in making their projects, and helped by lessons and seminars held by professionals and important figures in the world of communication and the Web.
The first 24 selected projects, from which the three winners will be chosen, will be presented on the competition's Web site, in order to give the greatest importance to excellent projects.
There are three competition categories:
Enjoying the home: the Web to improve the experience of the home Enjoying the city: the Web to improve communication and one-to-one relationships between people and cities Interpersonal relationships: the Web to improve relationships between individuals
The author of the best project competing in the third section (Interpersonal relationships) will be awarded with a "Macromedia Special Prize". Therefore, the use of Macromedia servers and tools (like Flex, ColdFusion MX7 and Flash) or the foreseen compatibility with Macromedia softwares during the development stage of the project, will be considered determining factors in the assignation of the prize.
Entry materials with images and technical documentation, as needed, may address any aspect related to the Web and the use of current, past and future technologies.
The competition put on by O-one (which has always been focused on what makes innovation) aims to study, actualize and promote ideas and resulting projects that can help see the Web and its use in a new light and may even revolutionize all of our daily quality of life.
The miniaturization of technologies, the spread of broadband and wi-fi and mobile communication technologies are turning the Web into a new, increasingly everyday experience, fostering its spread and access in places and situations that were thought impossible not long ago. This defines new lifestyles always on the go, and connected to a network of knowledge and relationships both virtual and real at the same time. Another reason why O-one decided to put on this competition of ideas is to explore the new directions the Web will take, its future and the impact that this revolution will have on everyday life.
O-one was founded in 1999 and is based in Milan and Reggio Emilia. It is specialized in consulting, planning and developing e-business projects. Its major customers include public and private groups, such as Istituto Nazionale per il Commercio Estero, Assopiastrelle, Vodafone Italia, Berloni, Helvetia Assicurazioni, EuropAssistance, Robur, Ceramiche Lea Gruppo Panaria, Canali, Regione Veneto, Carrefour, Gruppo Banca Lombarda.
