Competition Brief
This architecture competition follows the successful electronic competition of unbuilt work celebrated at the Bienal Miami + Beach 2001 & 2003.
The goal of this competition is to promote and reveal the potency of "new conceptual and experimental work" in architecture today. The objective is to award extraordinary unbuilt projects and architectural ideas. Design works that provoke new cultural visions, new professional practices, and new understandings of urbanity of the contemporary world.
The competition is open to all architects, designers and students of architecture regardless of citizenship. The only requirement is that the project has not been constructed by the deadline of the competition.
The organizing committee of the Bienal + Miami 2005 calls for this contest to be an open competition about the possible futures of architecture. The word "architecture" or "architectural" in this competition it is an open word. The committee's belief is that we live in an age in which we are forced to redefine our traditional notion of design and architecture. The committee's conviction is that a major part of the future of architecture lies in a discourse that can be found mostly in "un-built and experimental" work from around the world. The objective of the competition is to reveal this discourse. In order to review and promote these projects worldwide all work must be submitted via the Internet.
This prize is designed to award single projects. The jury will evaluate each project individually. There is no limit on the number of projects that can be entered but each project has to be registered individually.
The competition is organized as part of the Bienal Miami + Beach 2005 which is sponsored by The School of Architecture at Florida International University, AIA Miami Chapter, Miami, and the Federacion Panamericana de Arquitectos.
Registration and Format of Presentations
The registration and submission period of the individual projects will be from September 10 to October 21, 2005 (Registration will be available in this web site on September 10, 2005).
The registration fee is USD $30 payable with a credit card on the registration page.
The participants must submit their work in the format of web pages accessible via the Internet. There is no limit in the size or style of the web page presentation. However, it is recommended that the participants consider that the jury will review the projects from different computers around the world and will access the Internet at different speeds.
It is recommended that the participants restrict the use of plug-ins and if they are forced to use them, they must properly describe them in their pages. Please note that the jury will evaluate the content based on the architectural design and ideas, and not on the multimedia presentation.
The official language of the e-Competition is English.
The initial web page must include the title of the project. This first page must also include a link called "contact" which must be located in the upper left corner. The "contact" link must include the name of the participants, e-mail, contact address, phone numbers and affiliation. The name of the participants must not be included in any other place of the web site. The web pages must include a description of the project, site, program, concepts, plans, elevations, sections and perspectives.

Registration and submission of web page via the Online Registration: September 10 to October 21, 2005.
Jury Process
The jury process will be divided into two stages.
First Stage: The first stage jury will select in three rounds the semifinalists and finalist projects.
Final Stage: The final jury will review all final projects and will recommend the Winners and Honorable Mentions. Award Winners will receive a certificate of award. Prizes will be divided according to the recommendations of the jury. The decisions of the jury are final and cannot be reverted after they are submitted. The results of the competition will be published November 10, 2005 during the "Bienal of Miami + Beach 2005" and in this web site.
Awards
The Bienal Medallion will be awareded to the best project of all categories:
1st Prize, Gold Bienal Medallion
2nd Prize, Silver Bienal Medallion
3rd Prize, Bronze Bienal Medallion
Honor Bienal Medallion will be presented at the jury discretion
Finalists and semifinalist will also be exhibited during the Bienal Miami + Beach 2005.
