Competition for the Best Computer Animation
Made on the Basis of Iakov Chernikhov's Compositions
Graphics of Iakov Chernikhov being the parts of his cycles "Aristography" (1914-1927), "Ornament" (1925-30), "Fundamentals of the Modern Architecture" (1925-30), "Constructions of Architectural and Mechanical Forms" (1925-31), "Architectural Fantasies" (1925-33) are proposed for the competition. Participants are proposed to make 3-D computer models (using 3DMAX, MAYA and other programs compatible with them) on the basis of 2-D compositions of Iakov Chernikhov, and make an animated cartoon film with the duration of up to 60 seconds (in the bitmapped or vector form) that should disclose the beauty of architectural fantasy to the greatest extent.
A film entitled "The second reality of Iakov Chernikhov's fantasies" will be made on the basis of the competition results.
Make-Up of Submitted Materials
- Model: in the 3D Studio or WRML formats
- Animation: Flash-file or AVI (recommended compression by DivX codec).
Total size of files equals up to 700 MB. Resolution: 640õ480 dpi.
It is proposed to use the soundtrack to the choice of the author in accordance with the rate of animation and movement of composition elements.
The composition may be performed in a free abstract form or with integration of composition elements into the urban environment, as well as a version, into a definite landscape.
The material should be placed on CD in the four folders named as follows:
TEXT, VIDEO, PRINT and WEB. Recorded into the TEXT folder are the text files in English and Russian with the mandatory indication of the competitor's contact data: surname, Christian name, year of birth, address, telephones, e-mail address, place of study or work, year of training.
It is also necessary to submit the photograph of the author/authors of 8x10 cm size. If necessary, explanatory notes to the animatedcartoon film or commentary thereto are recorded into this folder.
Recorded into the Video folder are:
- Model in formats 3D Studio or VRML;
- Animation: flash-file or AVI (recommended compression by means of codec DivX).
Placed in the PRINT folder are 1-3 images of 3D high-resolution models (5,000 x 3,500 pix, Tiff, LZW compression) and screenshots (2,500 x 1,800 pix) at the author's discretion.
Recorded into the WEB folder are the low-resolution copies: preview of the
video roll with the size of 3 -15 MB; screenshots (at the author's discretion), images of
3D model with the size from 600 to 1000 pix. All raster images should be presented
in the color model RGB.
Participation Conditions
For participation in the Competition, it is necessary to be registered till May 1, 2006 on the web site: http://www.icif.ru in section "Competition".
Students of architecture and design institutes of higher education, young architects and designers may participate in the competition.
The materials will be accepted till June 1, 2006.
The materials should be sent till May 15, 2006.
The Prize monetary fund amounts to EUR 10,000.
