Panini Design Contest: Redesign the Bank Branch of the Future

Panini S.p.A., a Turin-based international company active in the payment system and imaging field, always attentive to developments in the fields of design and innovation, has organised "Share a New Vision", a contest to redesign the bank branch of the future. A contest open to designers, architects and creative artists from all over the world who are invited to rethink the interior of a bank in terms of innovation, interaction and multichanelling.
Organised as part of Torino 2008 World Design Capital, the aim of this contest is to provide an answer as regards needs for interaction, relationship and involvement that will be features of banks in the future.
Torino 2008 World Design Capital Design, research studies and innovation have always been absolutely vital factors for economic, social and cultural growth and this is why ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design) has launched the World Design Capital project, choosing Turin as the first capital.
The key to Turin's success is the far-reaching process of transformation underway, fuelled by a combination of its strong industrial tradition and vocation for research and innovation.
As World Design Capital, Turin will represent Italy as a whole in terms of its tradition and culture for design, promoting internationally values associated with style and a "design mentality".
More than 120 events have been scheduled that will revolve around four broad main themes - Public Design, Economy and Design, Education and Design and Design Policies.
The Contest The aim of the "Share a New Vision: redesign the bank branch of the future" contest is to 'rethink' spaces intended for branch customers in terms of their functionality, ergonomics and design. A bank branch is a complex system that includes transactions concerning the exchange of documents, information and data, but above all relationships to provide services and build loyalty. The branch is, in fact, a key factor in a bank's communication strategy. From a strategic standpoint it represents the 'moment of truth' for financial institutions, one of the essential elements of the bank's multichannelling and communication with customers, the focus of all efforts underlying the various services offered. Customers form an opinion of a bank's image inside the branch, based on the helpfulness and competency of the staff, but also the technological and physical accessibility of banking services.
So the creative artist's task should be to rethink the branch as a place/service to be utilised in a positive and constructive manner, combining ideas and advanced solutions to design a bank, focusing entirely on the interior environment, to create the real branch of the future. An environment combining operational requirements with moments of involvement and interactive zones in which customers and their needs are the real protagonists. One of the contest's main aims is, in fact, 'to agree on' a new concept for the branch environment and therefore 'the bank-space', with those who are first and foremost users.
Projects from designers who have initially registered their entry for the contest (between January 15 and February 15, 2008) must be submitted by May 5, 2008, whereas the award ceremony will take place at the Castello del Valentino in Turin on May 29, 2008.
The full announcement and detailed entry information will be made available on the website http://www.paninidesigncontest.com
