Surface magazine announces a nationwide search for the best emerging fashion photographers to showcase in Surface's Annual Avant Guardian issue and traveling exhibition. The Avant Guardian project has launched many photographic careers. Launch yours.
Conceived as a layered platform to both seek out and celebrate budding stars in commercial photography, the Avant Guardian has grown into the premier promotional outlet for American photographers.
Over the past decade, Surface has provided numerous up-and-corners with the opportunity to bring their visions to life, and pooling the resources of Surface's network of studios, stylists and fashion clients to help those emerging talents craft fashion editorials and gain global recognition. Surface editors and a guest panel of internationally-renowned, industry elite select a handful of the most promising and distinctive photographers from well over a 1000 submissions.
Winners of the competition will have their work featured in the Avant Guardian Portfolio, the foundation of Surface's increasingly popular AVG issue. The most visually arresting images form the portfolio are showcased in an exhibition that launches in New York and then Travels to Los Angeles and MIami., The AVG continues to emulate the successful balance that Surface has struck between conceptual artistry and commercial marketability.
