Istanbul, heart of the world with thousand year old cultures opening into one another is on its way to become the heart of the design.
The first design week of Turkey, Istanbul Design Week 2005 (IDW) brings together new talents, professionals, manufacturers and design addicts under the same umbrella by the cooperation of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Art-Decor magazine of the DBR (Dogan Burada Rizzoli Magazine Publishing and Marketing Inc.) magazine group; dDf - Dream Design Factory, Event Management Company and idf - International Design Fair, Services Limited Company during 13-20 September 2005.
ADesign Fair, the fair module of the Istanbul Design Week 2005 project organized for the last two years, will take place on old Galata Bridge during 14-18 September.
IDW, which will host in addition to the industrial design the other disciplines of the design such as fashion, meal, graphics, is targeting to spread all over the city, especially starting from old Galata Bridge, with the fair, panels, seminars, contests, exhibitions, interactive shows, workshops and other activities with "design" theme.
Istanbul Design Week 2005 Mission
- To locate Istanbul as the city of design; to create a new platform to international companies and designers.
- By taking Istanbul as a mean of design, to meet Istanbul's culture, to introduce to the world.
- To get together "the industry" who wants to become a "creative brand" and "the designer" who wants to be "original".
- To show good works created in the Art - Craft - Design axial.
- To make spotlight the valuable role of design by using various media tools.
Istanbul Design Week 2005 Concept
The umbrella concept of Istanbul Design Week will be "From Turkish Delight to Turkish Design". This approach, which now symbolizes transition from us to the world or from an imitator culture to a creative culture, became an exciting movement on its own for the masses last year.
Architect Yilmaz Zenger, creator of Istanbul Design Week, defines the conceptual framework of the activities and the fair as

The Bridge That Brings Together the Cultures
ADesign Fair, one of the main activities to be organized under the brand "Istanbul Design Week" will be held on old Galata Bridge. The use of Galata Bridge, which is important place in Istanbul history, as the exhibition space without disturbing its historical texture will provide a new expansion for the vision of "Turkish Design". This organization, which we believe will lead to affinity in the international field, will play an important role in the introduction of the cultural heritage of the city, as well as the Turkish design culture.
