Toronto International Art Fair - Art Toronto 2005

Art Toronto 2005 will showcase modern, multi-disciplined art from Impressionist to Contemporary periods, with a focus on the latest developments in the international art scene.
The event will be launched by the Opening Night Preview, a benefit for the Art Gallery of Ontario. The Preview will be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, South Building, Exhibit Hall E from 6:30pm to 10pm on Thursday, November 3, 2005. Tickets for this prestigious event are $185.00 and will be available for purchase starting September 1, 2005.
A professional, multifaceted marketing, public relations and promotional campaign, with the express objective to attract buyers, will cover markets in Canada, United States, Europe and Asia. In addition, a comprehensive public relations program with the media, museums, federal and local governments, and the local art community, will create excitement and momentum.

Opening Night Preview The Opening Night Preview from 6:30 to 10pm is the celebratory launch of the Art Fair and a benefit for the Art Gallery of Ontario. This is a chance to view and purchase art work before the Fair opens to the public.
Special Collectors' Preview For serious collectors, this exclusive ticket offers a limited number of guests the very first opportunity to view and purchase art at Art Toronto 2005.
Fresh Avant-Garde Fresh Avant-Garde is an ongoing initiative that highlights the talent and innovation of young artists. The program, open to galleries representing emerging artists, provides visitors with a firsthand look at new contemporary art concepts and is a source of curatorial interest. This is an excellent opportunity for emerging galleries to participate at TIAF and for the new generation of young buyers to purchase affordable art.
Special Projects Each year the Fair introduces a special exhibit of curatorial significance within and beyond traditional forms of presentation. Special projects at Art Toronto 2005 are:
Art Rising This feature exhibition of contemporary Chinese art will occupy 10,000 square feet and will feature installation, photography and painting by 15 Chinese artists represented by 10 galleries located in New York, Shanghai, Beijing, Taipei, Paris, Hong Kong, Barcelona, and Chicago. The project is curated by Shengtian Zheng, Managing Editor of the Yishu Journal of Contemporary Chinese Art and member of the organizing curatorial collective behind the Shanghai Biennale.
International Invitational Invited by members of the Invitational and Special Projects Committee, this project allows galleries located outside of Canada to participate at TIAF at a reduced cost. Members of this committee are: Joe Friday - Collector / David Liss - Director and Curator, MOCCA / David Moos - Curator, Contemporary Art, AGO / Rick Rhodes - Editor, Canadian Art Magazine / Marshall Webb - Lecturer, Collector and Cultural Program Consultant to TIAF / Shengtian Zheng - Curator and Managing Editor, Yishu Journal of Contemporary Chinese Art.
Solo Spaces This section of the fair provides limited space for a feature presentation of a body of work or a special installation of an individual artist being presented at the Fair through a participating dealer.
The News at Five Art Toronto 2005 will see the third successful edition of The News at Five, a series of daily rotating exhibitions curated by Canadian Art editor Richard Rhodes. As in years past, this series will feature the work of prominent Canadian artists assembled relevant to an overarching theme.
The TIAF Video Lounge This video lounge will showcase digital and new media works by selected artists.
Public Spaces, Public Art and Collectives An installation of art projects intended for the public spaces of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Through a collective of artists and curators this project energizes the public reception spaces to the exhibition halls while exploring the interactive value and accessibility of public art.
