Context Exhibition and Utopian Office Competition
A new competition has been announced by the organisers of Context, the groundbreaking workplace design and management event that takes place at Earl's Court from 11-13 October of this year.
CMPi has announced the launch of Context, an entirely new type of event that will explore the many facets of the office environment. Full details of the event are yet to be announced but the first - Context 2005 - will take place at Earl's Court in October.
Event Director Chris Fountain explains the reasoning behind Context. 'For some time now there has been a gap in the market for an event that reflects the strategic role of the office. Some exhibitions for this sector have over-focused on products at the expense of looking at the true role of the office. It's rather like watching a play in which all anybody talks about are the props. It's not surprising audiences are demanding more, following the failure by some to fire the imagination of both visitors and exhibitors.
'Context will change all that by embracing the total office environment and exploring its many facets including its role as a communicator of organisational identity, as a driver of individual well-being and productivity and as a social space. Our aim is to make Context innovative at every level from the floor layout through to the events programme.' Picking up themes that will be discussed in the show, the Utopian Office competition asks entrants to create an ideal workplace for an imaginary marketing company based on contemporary aesthetic ideals, legislation, technology and management thinking. Open to everyone, from the best known architecture practices and office designers and dealers through to undergraduates, the competition will be judged by some of the industry's genuine power brokers including Luke Pearson, Aidan Walker, Neil Usher and leading product designer Dick Powell.
The ultimate winner will be offered financial support and a large space at Context to recreate its design as the focal point of the floor. A selection of other competition entrants will also be showcased at the event which will attract a large number of clients, decision makers and influencers. Commenting on the launch of the Utopian Office competition, Context Event Director Chris Fountain said. 'The Utopian Office offers workplace designers a unique and exciting opportunity to show potential clients exactly what they can do. It also demonstrates our commitment to make this the first show that embraces everybody involved in workplace design and management from product designers to manufacturers, architects, office dealers and end-users.'
