Photographer Chris Pieretti's Unabridged Look at the Downtown New York Art Scene
re:Vision, a 176-page visual tour of New York City's cultural underground scene photographed and produced by New York-based photographer Chris Pieretti, is being launched this month. A pre-launch party for re:Vision is being held on Thursday, November 17th, 2005 from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at Dactyl Foundation for the Arts on 64 Grand Street, New York City.
The book is a rare opportunity to get close to some of New York's true independent artists who live, work and create on the streets of New York. Limited edition, signed prints from re:Vision's first printing will be on sale for $85 each. All proceeds will go towards the future private printing of re:Vision. All prints bought at the event entitle the buyer to receive a signed edition of the re:Vision book. The book and prints will also be available for sale online for one month from November 7th - December 9th at http://www.revisionnewyork.com/ re:Vision highlights New York's most notable downtown artists, who were documented over the course of one year as photographer Chris Pieretti followed the process of their art as it moved from vision to reality. Innovators such as Swoon (Deitch Gallery), Tony Arcabascio (Alife), RB Umali (Zoo York), Alexis Dziena (ABC's Invasion, Broken Flowers), Jeffstaple (Reed Space/StapleDesign), Jaime Reyes (Rookie Skateboards), are a few of the artists that round out this inspiring and aesthetically generous book. Images from the famed collection of Dorothy Twining Globus are included.
re:Vision is the undertaking of New York-based photographer Chris Pieretti. The book's concept came from a conversation overheard by Mr. Pieretti in a New York dive bar during the winter of 2003. A young man was trying to convince his friend to give up playing music because, he said, "What is the point? Everything has been done." Mr. Pieretti, an independent artist in his own right, was bothered by this notion. He began to document the creative, physical and mental spaces behind the most progressive art and culture in New York to prove to himself and the world that there is a point to realizing your artistic vision. re:Vision is the first volume of what will hopefully be a series of books documenting the artists and tastemakers who are manipulating our collective visual future.
