Chocolate Fashion Show
Chocolate Show is the ultimate festival of world class exhibitors, chef demonstrations, chocolate fashion and showpieces, tantalizing gifts, activities for children, and more.
Chocolate makers are spicing things up at the seventh annual Chocolate Show, a four-day yumfest starting tomorrow at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City.
``One company is featuring chocolate with basil and cinnamon, and another is launching a chocolate, ginger and cardamon (creation),'' said Kerrin Feldman, spokeswoman for The Chocolate Show. ``Chefs are using items from their spice rack in their chocolate.''
Included in the 40,000 square feet of chocolate are confectionery creations such as chocolate sushi, herbed chocolates and organic fruit truffles.
``Chocolate is like jewelry these days,'' Feldman said. ``It's about style and high-class packaging.''
Which is why chocolatiers and fashionistas have joined together to create decadent designs made out of - you guessed it - chocolate.
These ready-to-eat creations, dished out by such designers as Nicole Miller and Patricia Field, use chocolate as ornaments, embroderies or fabric and benefit Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS.
``The 2003 fashion show recieved enthusiastic responses from the public,'' said Sylvie Douce, co-founder of The Chocolate Show in New York and Salon du Chocolate in Paris and Tokyo.
``The energy from the public was contagious and this year's stellar lineup of designers will make for another exciting event.''
The fashion show is tonight, but the dresses will be on display throughout the weekend at the show. And if you're not into eating chocolate, you can drink some at the Chocolate Lounge, featuring fudgey cocktails and spirits.
It's enough to make Willy Wonka dizzy.
( Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and students and $10 for children ages 6 to 14. For more information, log on to www.chocolateshow.com or call (866) CHOC-NYC. )
