Jasper de Haan: Blue Darkroom
Jasper de Haan's "Blue Darkroom" is a spatial installation in a room whose walls are coated with phosphorescent paint. As the title suggests, the interior is not merely intriguing but eerie and even sinister. The Darkroom challenges our conventional conceptions of spatial quality. This theme has been part of architectural discussions for years, but here it is made manifest in a very physical way. The depth of this space has become impalpable and the boundaries between the ceiling, walls and floor dissolve.
De Haan studied at an art academy for several years but eventually went on to train as an architect. His studio is in Rotterdam. De Haan operates at various scales and his work is interwoven with many threads: art projects, historical studies and theoretical research all add to the breadth of his activities.
The exhibition can be viewed until May 14 2006.
