Nokia Cape Town Fashion Week 2006
Nokia Cape Town Fashion Week, Africa's largest gathering of fashion talent, will take place 11th -15th July 2006. Now in its fourth year, the event has grown into one of the premiere "new world" fashion weeks providing an international platform for designers from across Sub-Saharan Africa.
This year's event celebrates a new creative spirit across the continent and has the theme New World Africa: meaning both the redefining of the continent locally and internationally and a celebration of the opportunities of 21st Century Africa. Cape Town's heritage as the gateway for many international visitors to Africa and its eclectic blend of different cultures makes it the perfect meeting place for one of the most dynamic and diverse groups of creative talent in the world. With African design influencing the collections of renowned designers such as Stella McCartney and Dolce & Gabbana the time is right for the talent of designers from the region to be celebrated internationally.
Designers showcasing 2006/07 Spring/Summer collections at the event include: Hip Hop, Klūk, CGdT, Maya Prass, Habits, Sun Goddess, Fred Eboka, Catherine Moore and Dicky Longhurst amongst a total of over seventy designers. Guest designers, from over ten African countries such as Nigeria, Namibia, Kenya and Tanzania, will also be participating this year.
Gerry Rantselli, Nokia Cape Town Fashion Week spokesperson said: "African fashion has found a unique voice and an inspiring energy. Nokia Cape Town Fashion Week is a celebration of the diversity and creative passion of our designers and a great opportunity for Africa to challenge some of the world's preconceptions about our continent. Cape Town has long been where many first experience Africa; it is apt that it has become the largest platform for showcasing our design talent."
Mika Niemi, Nokia South Africa's sales director explains: "Culturally, Africa inspires style and fashion internationally and initiatives such as Nokia Cape Town Fashion Week 2006, have been implemented to showcase Africa's natural talent, passion and energy for fashion."
Noki Dube, CEO of Cape Town Routes Unlimited, the marketing organisation for Cape Town and the Western Cape said: "Cape Town has a well-deserved reputation as one of the most beautiful and culturally dynamic cities in the world. Previous events have proved that Cape Town is a fast growing as a fashion destination of choice."
Nokia Cape Town Fashion Week takes place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Due to high demand and many sell-out shows last year seating has been expanded at the event.
