New Arrivals. New voices in Illustration is the first joint exhibition organised and curated by the Coningsby Gallery and the Association of Illustrators (AOI) to be held from Sunday 17 to Saturday 23 September 2006 at the Coningsby Gallery London.
New Arrivals showcases and promotes the work of 12 distinctive and imaginative illustrators, who have started practice over the last few years and have published their work for the first time in this year's AOI Images annual.
Illustrators Caroline Thomlinson, Paula Bowles, Thea Brine, Rachel Horton, Jay Taylor, Peter Bowen, Marco Ventura, Sarah Hanson, Sarah Coulston, Derek Bacon, Ridade Al-Daghestani and Paul Boston have all been selected for their original approach and style.
Each artist will exhibit one of their favourite commissioned artworks and one new piece of artwork created in response to the brief of the curators, asking for an image that conveys/depicts the vitality and indispensable importance of 'the new' in society as they see it.
A panel of 5 judges, drawn from commissioning client companies, the AOI and The Coningsby Gallery will select the best piece of artwork, which will be awarded the inaugural Coningsby Gallery REFRESH! Illustration Award with a value of £1000.
"These artists' fresh styles, approaches and 'messages' will make a significant contribution to illustration as an artistic and commercial communication form over the coming years." Andrew Coningsby, Coningsby Gallery
