Istanbul Design Week 2006: IDW 2006
Design has been regarded as the strongest trend of the 3rd millenium. Futurologist John Naisbitt underlines "design" as one of the four main trends which determine our future. Design is the ultimate point on the final product in many sectors such as fashion, furniture, technology, architecture, publishing, (and considering the gradual domination of visual arts) home and food sector. In a period during which each kind of products and services go through a design process, innovative design ideas are now needed much more than in the past. While today's major design centers are gradually consuming their sources of creativity, İstanbul attracts all attention with its young energy, dynamic urban profile, incredible variety in cultural and daily life triggering creativity, and unique potential in this field. World creative authorities searching for new visions now turn their faces to this urban structure including cultures of thousands of years. They excitedly discover new interactions in urban structure of Istanbul which will regain consumed inspirations. idw 06 aims to convert young and creative energy of Istanbul into ideas, styles and approaches which may influence design trends and to create a new design vision for Istanbul, as a city gradually being popular in the world: Istanbul, the future of design...
idw 06 gets manufacturer companies, designers, young talents, professionals and design addicts together on 12-17 September.
idw 06 offers an international platform on which an artistic platform will be displayed, spreading from various disciplines of design such as fashion design, architectural design, graphic design, digital-technological design and dining design, into the city with Old Galata Bridge as the center of this platform.

- Will gather world famous designers in order to play a role in determining the design trends of the next years.
- Will create reference points to help Turkish designers and producers for expansion of their vision.
- Will make spotlight the valuable role of design by using various media tools.
- Will procure the firms and institutions that contribute in production to be able to take social responsibilities for design and to support young designers.
- Will purposes together the innovative aspect of design with the urban profile focused on youth, dynamism and creativity along with the variety offered by Istanbul for cultural life, and to convert Istanbul into a design city triggered by creativity for the world's creative authorities searching for new sources of inspiration in this context.

Firms and Independent Designers Areas
The firms and independent designers who will attend to idw 06 will be able to exhibit their products and projects at the areas formed on Old Galata Bridge and around. Firms and independent designers areas is the most extensive part of idw 06 by means of sharing new design ideas and reflections of latest design trends of different sectors.
Conferences and Panels
idw 06 will hold conferences that converses and discusses everything related to design. It will speak out all past and future trends with conference and panels which will make the world famous designers share their experience.

International Exhibitions
idw 06 will host a wide range of exhibition content including products designed with new/different materials and production forms beyond accustomed methods, concept projects which entitles a new design characteristics to the products, special collection exhibitions where innovative examples of different design discipline will take place, graduation projects of the students studying design in universities, national and international design events.

Awards
Competitions, organized in two different categories; "IDW06 Editors' Award" and "idw 06 Design Awards" will be oriented to different disciplined designers who attend to IDW 06 and their works. Award ceremony will be organized at Old Galata Bridge.
Old Galata Bridge
Upper Floor: Design Area, outstanding and selected designs of design offices and designers, Design Lounge for contributors' stands and main sponsors will take place in the upper part of the Bridge.
Lower Floor: Contributors' stands, workshop performance and exhibition area, independent designers' performance and exhibition area and press room will take place at the lower part of the Bridge.
Sea Surface Exhibition Area: Designs which can float or the just water as the design will take place at the Sea Surface Exhibition Area.
Additional Bridge Connection: Seminars-Conferences and design activities plus Design Cafe for guests to inhale the mystic air of the Old Galata Bridge will take place at the Additional Bridge Connection Part.
