TDB 2004 for Designers
Registration closes:31 July 2004
Revolutions have overtaken the design world often by the invention of epoch shaking technologies and radical forms. In architecture the appearance of reinforced concrete and curtain walls in glass, in furniture design the use of steel pipes and molded urethane are examples of such revolutions. However, for this competition we are not necessarily seeking entries that require the invention of epochal technologies, or that suggest new forms for a radical new era of design. The theme, "revolutions start at home" actually suggests revolutions that are gentle, but pervasive rather than sudden, dramatic revolutions. We can see that such revolutions have started quietly around us. Designs that did not appear to bring changes have melted into our everyday life and eventually evolved to change the environment around us, the value of things and the lifestyles of users.
What is it for a design to have such subtle power? We look forward to proposals for furniture, lighting and small products or accessories designed from the free perspective of your creative mind.
