Rhodec ASID Student Chapter Online Educational Symposium
Take a team of students that live in different countries, mix in some determination and creativity, along with a little madness and hundreds of emails and online chats, and the results are almost unbelievable! This is how it's been for a small group of students working together from the Rhodec Student Chapter of ASID, (RASC), who have formed a team to organize the 2007 Online Educational Symposium.
The first Symposium was created by a different group of RASC students and was held on World Design Day in April, 2005. The success of that event led this year's team to once again, take on the challenge. "Luckily for us, the first team did an excellent job at utilizing the internet and record keeping - helping us to avoid some of the hurdles they faced." But that doesn't mean this team hasn't had its own share of obstacles to overcome!
This year's symposium team members live in 3 different countries and have never met each other - but that hasn't stopped them from getting things done! "When you work on a project of this magnitude, you have to learn to accept each other's differences and learn to work as a team - both of which are very important skills in the Interior Design Field. Because we all live in different time zones, this has given us an advantage: we literally work around the clock. As a team, we are growing together in our project management skills, people skills, networking skills and professionalism. Most importantly, we've been forced to grow in leaps and bounds technologically!!!"
Once the mission statement was set for 2007's event, the team started recruiting sponsors as well as professionals and educators from around the globe; all are willingly volunteering their time simply to help future generations of Interior Designers. "We started planning in October and since then have been overwhelmed by the positive responses by those we contacted! Their generosity and willingness to share their knowledge and expertise has served to increase our determination to make this an incredible event for everyone involved."
Moving learning outside the "classroom" and into cyberspace for serious ID educational networking is our purpose. So how do you do that? You plan an OnLine Educational Symposium!
The Symposium will be held in an on line venue on April 27, 2007 with the possibility of extending to the 28th due to the increasing popularity of the event. Speakers will hold 'real time' interactive on line discussions with students who have registered for specific topics. Depending on where you live, getting up in the middle of the night to attend a discussion might be a reality for some students!
