Disruptive Thinking: The Art Center Global Dialogues

Art Center College of Design, one of the world's premier art and design schools, will stage The Art Center Global Dialogues: Disruptive Thinking, in Barcelona on March 6-7, 2008 in partnership with ESADE Business School, the world's leading international business school.
The Art Center Global Dialogues: Disruptive Thinking is the first in a series of global events to be presented by Art Center in collaboration with preeminent educational institutions in major world cities, as part of its international strategy of engaging in dialogue about the critical issues in society. The inaugural event will take place in Barcelona, which Art Center has identified as the gateway to its developing presence in Europe. Art Center has recently entered a long-term formal agreement with ESADE Business School, which has been ranked by the Wall Street Journal as the #1 international business school for two consecutive years.
Disruptive Thinking will feature conversations with a wide range of radical thinkers and provocateurs from all fields and disciplines - including artists, designers, scientists, executives, architects and entrepreneurs - whose work in their respective fields has had a discernable effect on urban life and other significant global issues through changes in policies and paradigms. Speakers will be paired with influential members of the media who will interview them on their perceptions, accomplishments and ideas for the future.
Distinguished journalist Richard Addis, former editor of the Financial Times' Weekend Edition and former Executive Editor of London's Daily Mail, now heading the new online media venture Shakeup Media, will serve as the event's master of ceremonies. The international lineup, drawing from more than nine countries to date, includes such notables as:
Sir Nicholas Serota, Director of the Tate Gallery, London; Peter Head, former Senior Partner at the renowned London-based engineering firm Ove Arup; Thom Mayne, Pritzker Prize-winning architect and designer of the world's tallest building in Europe; Richard Burdett, Director of Urban Age and a global authority on mega-cities and their growth in the 21st century;
Additional speakers will be announced shortly.
In announcing the event, Art Center College of Design President Richard Koshalek said, "In order to meet the challenges of an ever-changing and increasingly complex world, it is the responsibility of institutions of higher learning to stimulate global dialogue. The extraordinary creativity and innovation needed to shape society's future can only be achieved through the highest level of sophisticated thinking and risk-taking. At Art Center, we inspire artists and designers to become creative leaders who will make a difference in the world, and we celebrate those who have stretched the limits and broken the boundaries of traditional thought. We have conceived the Global Dialogues event to be a forum for provocative discussion as well as a catalyst for new ideas that will transcend geographic boundaries and have an impact on us all."
ESADE President Carlos Losada said, "In business, innovation is the great differentiator. ESADE has taken a leadership position in advocating business innovation through design-based education, and to that end our institutional collaboration with Art Center is breaking new ground in connecting the worlds of business and design. We are extremely pleased to note that the inherent synergy between our two institutions makes us natural and logical collaborators in this effort. Our participation as presenting partners of the Global Dialogues demonstrates ESADE's commitment to applying creative thought to business development. We believe that dialogue can ignite both innovation and change with measurable results."
