Calty Design Research, Inc., the North American arm of Toyota's global design network, opens the doors of its Ann Arbor design studio today for the annual "Eve of Eyes." Marking CALTY's inaugural effort hosting the kick-off gala, the exclusive design reception benefits the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology (DIO).
Launching the 20th annual "EyesOn Design" weekend celebration of automotive design, the "Eve of Eyes" reception will showcase concept and production vehicles from Toyota, including the Scion t2B Concept, FJ Cruiser Concept, FT-HS Concept, 1978 Celica Concept, 2008 Highlander Hybrid, 2008 xB and the 2008 Tundra among others. "EyesOn Design" is a charitable benefit for the DIO, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the independence of the visually impaired.
"Strong vision is the foundation for innovative automotive concepts and designs," said Kevin Hunter, president of CALTY. "We are pleased to support DIOs impressive efforts through Eve of Eyes and our ongoing commitment to local, spirited design."
While today marks the first time hosting the "Eve of Eyes" event, CALTY has sponsored "EyesOn Design" events since 2003. The "Eve of Eyes" event will host automotive designers and engineers at CALTY's Ann Arbor production design studio.
CALTY's Ann Arbor studio, completed in May 2004, serves as a key production-focused studio and supports comprehensive production design for Toyota, Scion and Lexus branded vehicles in North America. The Ann Arbor studio works in conjunction with CALTY's primary studio headquartered in Newport Beach, Calif., and the design research studio in New York City. Through its three locations, CALTY provides complete design development from initial styling concept to final production design.
