The First China World Industrial Design Forum
With the theme of "Feel the design power and use it in real life", the 2008 First China (Shenzhen) World Industrial Design Forum will be held from May 17 to 18 in the "City of Design" Creative Industrial Estate, Shenzhen, China.
As China continues on its path to becoming a major economic power, many Chinese design brands (especially industrial design) are making the transition from domestic to international competition with the best in the world. Since a large number of these brands lack the international experience, professionalism and organisation that foreign brands might have, they must focus on building an effective globalisation strategy tailored to suit their needs and capabilities.
What is more, those Chinese design brands do not have enough brand recognition in developed markets like Europe and the US and bear the negative perception that their design and products are of poor quality. This can cause difficulties when entering developed markets with their own brands. A decent strategy may be needed to promote core strengths and abilities and to target a specialised market segment, like industrial design.
For the situations and difficulties mentioned above, this forum provides some answers and advice. It focuses on discussing brand-led change: the value of design, particularly in industrial design, and how Chinese creative industrial design explores the path to international market (From Made in China - Create in China - Design in China). The forum aims to promote the innovation design levels of China and to comprehensively improve China's independent design ability.
This forum is hosted by the Organizing Committee of the 4th ICIF, the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government and the Futian District Government. The event is being organised by Shenzhen Futian District Government, Shenzhen Sphinx Culture & Communication Co. Ltd, and the Shenzhen "City of Design" Creative Industrial Estate. It is co-sponsored by the Government of the Federal State of Berlin, Berlin Partner, NewIDZ.
