The Portable Film Festival 2007
The Portable Film Festival - an annual online festival presenting the best in international short film and internet video culture - has announced its 2007 categories and is urging people all of all backgrounds, nationalities, skill levels and locations to get involved alongside industry established filmmakers. Open until May 30, the "Call For Entries" process asks for contributions in four categories - "Short Film", "Music Video", "Look At Me" and "First Hand Capture" - with over $15,000 worth of prizes to be won by the best.
"The categories are designed to give people the chance to enter a festival," said Andrew Apostola, Creative Director, the Portable Film Festival. "Last year, one of our film entrants went on to be nominated for an Oscar ('Maestro' pictured LHS below) and we want to maintain that great standard in our film category but widen the brief elsewhere to account for the democratisation in film making and viewing practices. The web is a gateway to film and television and the existence of the Portable Film Festival proves you can become a star director through putting your work online."
As an added incentive, everyone entering the Portable Film Festival 2007 will be given the chance to win a worldwide distribution deal through Sony.
From the second the Portable Film Festival opens its virtual doors, festival goers can take its programme away with them - or maybe just some of the programme - and do whatever they want with it. All they need is a portable device, like a video iPod, Sony PSP, laptop computer or suitable mobile phone. Plus, all of the content is free to download.
The Portable Film Festival 2007 will reflect the new internet era (known as "Web 2.0"), making it easier than ever for people to understand. With 2007's playing field totally level for professionals and amateurs, the programme features big-time directors and bedroom philosophers - whether you're making a big budget doco, a mid-budget music clip or a no budget blog, the Portable Film Festival wants the busy modern world to know about it.
The "Call For Entries" process precludes the Portable Film Festival's official launch date soon after. The "Call For Entries" is explained and managed at the Portable Film Festival's website - http://www.portablefilmfestival.com
