A carnivorous plant that grows at a monstrous speed, two orange juice squeezers from the dematerialised Soft series, a 'Save The Turkey' Campaign - these are just three of many ingredients that Simone, Juliet and Mimosa have to battle with in order to set themselves apart. The acclaimed digital film SoftSoftSoft product from the SoftSoftSoftSeries (mixed/new-media) by visual artist Javier Marchán is being distributed by Videoart.ch - Office for Videoart, Switzerland, from the 15th of March 2005.
Videoart.ch / Office for Videoart / Büro für videokunstangelegenheiten license the digital film SoftSoftSoft for performance to selective worldwide museums and institutions with the approval of the artist. In addition, an unlimited edition of DVDs is made available to the general public without public performance rights. Videoart.ch / Office for Videoart / Büro für videokunstangelegenheiten is a platform that aims a broad distribution as well as easy access for people interested in these artworks.
The SoftSoftSoftSeries © Javier Marchán 2005 is outcome of an international research project on people's relationship with the world of objects. The work has been produced with the participation of Jan Van Eyck Academie and the processes of a cell of sixty-nine individuals from around the world. Operating at the crossroads of sculpture, design, philosophy, film and communication, the series are constituted of drawings, texts, designs, 3-D objects and visuals of moving imagery. Modulations from the SoftSoftSoftSeries in the Netherlands, Canada, Australia and Austria have had critical acclaim and public applaud.
Javier Marchán (Barcelona, 1967) studied fine art and contemporary critical theory at Goldsmiths College, UK. He engages in interdisciplinary aspects of contemporary art, design and theory. Javier Marchán's artworks are fictional, neo-abstractive and multi-layered using a variety of media to propose evolving notions of perception, significance and consciousness. Javier Marchán has been working both independently and in collaboration with many individuals from different disciplines in order to challenge traditional formats of artistic practice. His work is being exhibited internationally.
A part of the percentage of the returns of SoftSoftSoft's licensing will go to the Javier Marchán Editorial Board Fund at the Jan van Eyck Academie, the Netherlands. This has been set up by the artist and the institute for the germination of new projects by fellow artists and researches. Jan van Eyck Academie is a post-academic institute for research and production in the fields of fine art, design and theory open to receive contributors from all over the world.
