Built NY Scores Gold In 2005 IDEA Industrial Design Competition
Accessory design maverick Built NY, Inc., today announced its widely popular Built NY Lunch Bag was selected as a gold winner of the 2005 Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA05). Co-sponsored by BusinessWeek Magazine and the Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA) the IDEA Awards are the world's most prestigious recognition for excellence in product design. The company's hot selling Built NY Two-Bottle Tote was awarded a gold medal in last year's IDEA competition.
A jury of 17 world-renowned designers and critics selected Built NY's Lunch Bag (also known as the byo lunchbag) from 1,380 entries during an exhaustive two-and-a-half day evaluation and debate.
"A design for people first, the byo lunchbag brings a fun and savvy solution to a lifestyle problem," said Marc Gobe, an IDSA juror, President and CEO of Desgrippes Gobe.
Another juror, Peter Stathis, principal, Virtual Studio added, "The Built NY Lunch Bag is a new type of personal accessory that readily identifies itself with the pleasures of a noontime break. More significantly, it upends the traditional classifications and cultural signifiers of a blue or white collar workforce, to include business's newly emergent sectors of independent and creative service providers rapidly defining today's 'no collar' professionals."
Launched in 2004, the stylish and practical Built NY's Lunch Bag is a uniquely designed nylon-covered neoprene bag which insulates and protects its contents. The bag's two compartments store food and a beverage separately to maintain optimal temperatures for each. Additionally, the main zippered compartment opens flat creating a convenient placemat, lies flat when empty and is machine washable.

About IDEA, Industrial Designers & IDSA The IDEA program fosters business and public understanding about the impact of industrial design excellence on the quality of life and the economy. Industrial designers determine the form, use features and interaction qualities of manufactured products, packaging and digital media systems. They study people at work, at home and in motion to create satisfying experiences with products from the kitchen and the office to the hospital and the warehouse, shaping these to fit their customers and to make effective use of industrial processes. In this way, industrial designers have a quiet but profound presence in almost everything people encounter during the day. IDSA is the nonprofit association that represents the profession of industrial design to education, business, government and the public and serves the profession's needs for information and networking.
