Dupont: Shaping New Trends in Living
DuPont supports the XXII UIA Congress, building on its strong ties with architects. Putting its 200 years plus of science heritage at the disposal of architects, DuPont helps in shaping today's and tomorrow's living trends and enhances the safety, aesthetics, sustainability and comfort of buildings.
An official supporter of the XXII UIA Congress held in Istanbul, DuPont is strongly committed to this leading architectural gathering and to understanding architects' design aspirations.
"We are very proud to support this year's UIA Congress in Turkey, both to take part in shaping new living trends through our strong ties with visionary architects and because of the Congress' symbolic presence in Turkey, a key country at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, where we are increasing our foothold," said Jean-Luc Duramy, Director DuPont Turkey, Middle-East, North-Africa.
DuPont is hosting a seminar for all Congress participants in the presence of internationally renowned Turkish architect, Han Tumertekin, which will explore how an architect's vision needs to be coupled with sound grounding in technical, safety and business realities to take shape. Tumertekin, recognised for blending traditional and modern influences and recipient of the Aga Khan Award 2004, will discuss the role of materials with DuPont business leaders. "More than offering functional tools or products, we offer architects a partnership and deliver solutions that drive their creativity," said Adrien Schrobiltgen, Global Business Manager, DuPont Building Innovations. Apart from delivering durability and performance, architects expect materials to be visually exciting, yet economic to build and energy-efficient to run. "Our commitment begins with understanding these complex and challenging needs and continues by driving innovation through our science to meet them," added Schrobiltgen.
Throughout the Congress, DuPont will showcase its portfolio of products aimed at enhancing the safety, comfort, aesthetics and sustainability of buildings at the Lufti Kirdar Convention and Exhibition Centre, Rumeli Hall, stand B21. In particular, DuPont Corian, DuPont Tyvek, and DuPont SentryGlas Expressions will be on display.
Safe and Decorative Glass Solutions DuPont specialised interlayer products for laminated glass aim to maximise the visual and structural potential of glass. "Our offering responds to people's desire today to allow as much natural daylight as possible inside buildings which nevertheless remain safe and sound to live in," said Patrick Cazuc, EMEA Director, DuPont Glass Laminating Solutions.
Beyond the practical use of glass, architects are now also exploring its decorative potential. To provide a solution to this need DuPont combined the resources of two of its technologies - ink jet printing and glass laminating - to give birth to DuPont SentryGlas Expressions decorative laminated glass. These new interlayers are digitally printed in full-colour using patent-pending, high definition ink jet and PVB interlayer technology. The result is high-quality imagery and design textures in safety glass.
Protective Solutions "Architects seeking to deliver both adventurous form and practical economic function are turning increasingly to textile membranes coated with DuPont Teflon fluoropolymer," said Ian Fletcher, European architecture segment leader, DuPont Fluoropolymers. Teflon coatings let sunlight, warmth and fresh air in, while keeping UV rays, cold and moisture out. Also its non-stick properties enhance the cleaning effect of rain, while its inertness to UV light, moisture and micro-organisms and its fire safety performance make life spans of 30+ years commonplace.
Creative and Comfortable Surfaces DuPont Corian is a very versatile design material, used both to define space and the objects within it. "Seamlessness, formability, hygiene, durability, repairability, comprehensive colour range - all these properties concur to make Corian an inspiring material widely sought after by architects and designers," said Simon Langlois, Marketing Manager for Europe, Middle East & Africa, DuPont Surfaces.
Energy Saving Roofing Solutions The DuPont Tyvek non-ventilated sealed roof system contributes to optimizing the energy-efficiency of buildings. "This technology could help cut CO2 emissions by a staggering two million tonnes every year in the UK alone. As well as helping the governments to meet Kyoto Protocol targets, this would achieve massive savings on household energy bills," underlined Adrien Schrobiltgen, "and, what's more, it costs less and is easier to install than traditional construction methods."
Living Tomorrow DuPont has a tradition of working closely with architects to shape the environments we live in. Over the years the leading science company collaborated largely with the UIA, notably through the international DuPont Benedictus Awards to honour the most innovative architectural applications of glass.
DuPont is one of the main partners in the Living Tomorrow 3 project http://www.livtom.com, located in Brussels, Belgium. Living Tomorrow 3 embodies a realistic vision of how people will live and work in the future, reflecting emerging economical, technological and social trends. The partners in Living Tomorrow 3 work together to stimulate innovation in the areas of residential and commercial building, as well as household appliances. "We look forward to carrying our learnings in Istanbul into this visionary project", said Adrien Schrobiltgen, Global Business Manager, DuPont Building Innovations.
