Graduation exhibition: The graduates of 2005 from Danmarks Designskole exhibit at the Danish Design Centre and at Danmarks Designskole under the name '+81 New designers on the block'. Opening and fashion show on Thursday, 1 September 2005
The unveiling of the graduation projects from Denmark's design schools is always an exciting event. It is in the graduation projects that the designers draw on the greatest audacity and the professional experimentation that it takes to create tomorrow's innovation in Danish and international companies.
The graduation projects of 2005 show a great deal of diversity and many individual ideas for designers to make a difference and create solutions that meet the complex demands from businesses and society. A few examples:
Uturn by Marie Danel A product for the 400,000 Danes suffering from incontinence. Uturn uses ultrasound and Bluetooth technology to carry out a diagnosis and alert the wearer when the bladder is full - without the pain and discomfort that accompany many existing methods.
Projector 2005 by Lene Hald A visionary registration and visualisation of the youth groups, "style tribes", that exist today. Hald finds traditional instruments for segmentation and target group analyses inadequate for handling the individualised youth culture, and instead draws on a purpose-made alternative empirical base and systematic approach.
China by Agnes Fries: Inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen year, Fries has turned Andersen's paper cuttings into sophisticated china products that have been developed with a commercial context in mind, but without compromising on quality.
Clothing by Dorrit Shoshan Shoshan has created a collection that mixes eastern and western dress as a reflection on the contrast between busy western life style and the eastern emphasis on mental values.
Underwear by Signe Tolstrup Lingerie collection that addresses the contrast between private and public space. Tolstrup gives the concept of lingerie a twist by combining feminine and refined aspects with a rough, casual street look.
Game by Søren Meisner Pedersen, Michael Rud Jakobsen and Michael Wittrup Schierup Danish-made games are a global success these years, and Danmarks Designskole has therefore boosted training in the field. Three graduates have chosen to develop this new export field.
Collapsible kayak by Kristina Nordin How to solve the problem of meeting active city-dwellers' need to transport a 5-metre kayak across the city without a car? The answer may be Nordin's collapsible kayak, which fits into any flat and can be carried on a bicycle or under one's arm.
