Australians vote for winner of Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games coin design competition
Six secondary students have been selected by a panel of judges for a chance at having their design immortalised on an Australian 50c coin to commemorate the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
Hundreds of secondary schools across Australia have entered their best designs in the coin design competition.
The Royal Australian Mint will present $10 000 to the winning school.
The six finalists are:
Beverly Hills Girls High School, NSW
Casuarina Senior College, NT
Home Tuition, VIC
Kirwan State High School, QLD
Narrabundah College, ACT
Waikerie High School, SA
The winning coin design will be produced as a general circulating coin. The lucky student designer will have the rare privilege of having their initials incorporated into the coin.
The Royal Australian Mint, Australia's national mint, is inviting Australians to vote for the design they think is the best. To vote for your favourite design visit the mint's website (www.ramint.gov.au) home page and click on the coin competition icon to view the designs of the six finalists.
The Controller of the Royal Australian Mint, Dr Vivienne Thom said, "We received many great designs from talented young students embracing the spirit of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games. We are thrilled with the six finalists and encourage Australians to vote for their favourite design."
Voting will close at midnight on Thursday 4 November 2004.
