The prestigious Innovations Design and Engineering Awards Showcase honoree is awarded to the best products in terms of user value, design innovation, aesthetics, and contribution to quality of life. CyberLink PowerCinema has been nominated for its innovative technologies and features, market leadership and flexible business model. An eminent panel of independent designers, engineers and journalists judges each product. This is the 10th year for the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) to give this award.
The UPnP-ready CyberLink PowerCinema transforms the PC into a media entertainment center by giving access to features including Movies, Photo, Videos, Music, TV, Radio, and DVD burning via remote control. It is also a digital Media client player and the world's first standalone Intel Networked Media Product Requirements (Intel NMPR) validated media client application, enabling consumers the freedom to access their favorite content anywhere, anytime in the digital home. Soon-to-be-released PowerCinema 4 also includes a 3D user interface and new options like photo editing, digital TV, audio-video enhancements, online upgrades and streaming movie services from content provider CinemaNow.
In order to make home networking of premium content a reality for consumers, CyberLink and Intel cooperated to implement the Digital Transmission Content Protection (DTCP) over IP in PowerCinema. The DTCP-IP compliant PowerCinema will enable consumers to share protected content between digital home products over wired and wireless networks and protect the interests of premium content providers.
"CyberLink has a long history in developing DVD playback and TV recording technology, and PowerCinema 4 has adopted these leading edge technologies in supporting digital TV, hybrid TV tuner cards and Electronic Program Guides to make the digital home complete," said Alice H. Chang, CEO of CyberLink. "Having PowerCinema 4 receive an honoree distinction in the Computer Accessories category at CES 2005 is great recognition of our efforts in delivering integrated solutions for the Digital Home. CyberLink will keep on working to make the Digital Home a reality."
PowerCinema can be customized and branded for major PC manufacturers, and is currently shipping with tier-one OEM companies including NEC Computer International, Medion, Acer, BenQ, LG-IBM and Logitech. PowerCinema was voted Buyer's Choice at Computex 2004. The up-coming PowerCinema 4 supports a two-prong business model -- both OEM and retail. For OEM customers, PowerCinema is an extremely flexible modular solution. OEM customers incorporate modules that best suit their hardware needs. PowerCinema also represents a marketing platform offering OEM customers a means to upsell additional products and services through an "Extras" module. PowerCinema's "Extras" feature lets users go online and access customer support, download trial software, or purchase additional modules, feature enhancements, accessories and other CyberLink software.
