Ronald A. Altoon Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
The American Institute of Architects, California Council (AIACC) announces the 2006 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for Distinguished Service. This award is presented to an individual as recognition of outstanding contributions to the improvement of the built environment and contribution to the goals of the architectural profession.
Ronald A. Altoon, FAIA, is a true leader at heart. His commitment to advancing and serving others through the profession of architecture has been a constant throughout forty years. He has a keen sense of stewardship and of the built and natural environments. An honors graduate of the University of the Southern California School of Architecture, he also graduated with a Masters in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. Altoon has made a positive impact on architecture and has established a high standard of quality in the communities he has affected.
As a member of the USC School of Architecture Board of Counselors, he is a frequent lecturer on design, disaster assistance, leadership and practice at schools of architecture worldwide. He is currently on the USC Alumni Association Board of Governors.
Altoon is a founding partner of Altoon + Porter Architects, where he implemented intern and continuing education programs. He initiated a personal mentor program, as well as Altoon + Porter University, an AIA CES accredited internal lifelong learning program with 46 courses. He was the only architect on a nine member international Urban Land Institute New York & New Jersey World Trade Center Blue Ribbon Panel, with the charge of effective integration of the design into the contiguous communicates.
Altoon's work has resulted in over 75 design awards regionally, nationally and internationally. Three projects received Progressive Architecture Design Awards and one won a national Trust for Historic Preservation Award. Christopher C. Martin, FAIA, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Chairman of AC Martin Partners, Inc., states, "Altoon is a modern architect, a credit to California and our industry, a Lifetime achiever."
A few of Altoon's award winning architectural projects include, the Southwestern University School of Law Library, Engine Company No. 28 in Los Angeles, the Fashion Valley Center in San Diego, the Sengkang Transit Station in Singapore, and the UCLA Arthur Ashe Health and Wellness Center in Los Angeles. Altoon's body of work qualifies him for the Lifetime Achievement honor as a designer, mentor and leader in the profession.
The AIACC Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes outstanding achievement in the architectural profession and congratulates Mr. Altoon for this impressive accomplishment.
