Or Wai Kit Wins Bombay Sapphire Design Competition Runner-up Prize

Hong Kong designer, Or Wai Kit has won the runner-up prize in this year's Bombay Sapphire Designer Glass Competition for his glass Dragon Claw.
Mr Or who studied design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, collected the US$2,500 prize from Spanish designer, Patricia Urquiola at the international final held this evening as part of Milan Design Week, the largest design event in the world.
Guests including international designers, media and the 26 global finalists, gathered for the final judging of the glasses, which were displayed within the Bombay Sapphire Designer Glass Exhibition, a celebration of martini cocktail culture at Superstudio Piu in Milan.
A panel of high profile international designers assembled to judge the global final, including Ron Arad, Dror Benshetrit, Lena Bergstrom, Nadja Swarovski and Patricia Urquiola.
Inspired by the image of a dragon grasping a pearl, Or Wai Kit has created a design which blends east and west. The legendary dragon and a precious pearl represent the classic Bombay Sapphire dry martini with an olive. When you slip your fingers into the claw holding the olive, you get a true sense of the design's flamboyance and power.
In the last year, thousands of up-and-coming designers from around the world have been designing and creating martini cocktail glasses inspired by Bombay Sapphire and the 26 finalists in Milan represented Belgium, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the UK and USA.
The US$15,000 first prize was won by Tomek Rygalik and Jorre van Ast for their glass, Inverted, which plays with the archetypal form by placing the stem above the bowl to create a new, elegant drinking experience for the martini cocktail.
Bombay Sapphire is one of the fastest growing premium spirits in the world and for many years the brand has been a strong supporter of design. Designers such as Karim Rashid, Marcel Wanders, Eva Zeisel and Dakota Jackson have all created their own interpretation of the ultimate martini cocktail glass inspired by Bombay Sapphire. These glasses have been extensively featured in global press advertising for Bombay Sapphire.
