Heavenspot for ABCfamily's Interactive Music Machine

Heavenspot, a full service new media design agency located in Hollywood, California has recently completed the Music Mash-Up Machine for the upcoming ABC Family series "Falcon Beach". Debuting June 4, 2006, "Falcon Beach" tells the story of the summertime drama between the teenage residents and vacationers in an oceanfront New England town.
The mash-up package includes five musical genres, each with four unique track selections, recording settings and volume/fader controls, as well as three user-generated preset audio tracks that will be updated per week. Special features of the mash-up include a user- generated MP3 function that allows users to export their mixes to their desktops. Once exported, mixes can be used on handheld devices such as MP3 Players, PSP's and Mobile Phones. "This is a key feature," says Rob Flemming, (Interactive Producer, Heavenspot). "The market for mobile content is growing and Heavenspot is eager to continue exploring this new venture." Users can also email their mixes; recipients will receive a direct link to the sender's mix.

The project, sponsored by Hershey's Inc., was driven by ABC Family's marketing strategy of appealing to the young adult audience and ultimately driving traffic to the "Falcon Beach" website. "We wanted to create something fun for users to interact with that would generate a buzz and have users coming back to the site," says James Parton (Digital Media Producer, ABCFamily.com).
"Mash-up culture is here to stay," notes Chevon Hicks (Creative Director, Heavenspot). "Smart marketers realize that letting users define and generate content is the key to reaching the youth demographic and the public at large. Instead of constantly trying to sell them 'cool', we are now giving them the tools to create it."
Work on the project began in mid-March 2006 and was completed in late May 2006. All design, animation, programming, and production was completed in Heavenspot's Hollywood, CA, headquarters. The mash-up machine was created using the following software: Flash 8, Photoshop CS2, IllustratorCS2, and Pro Tools HD.
