Masters RSP - Research Study Program at Istituto Europeo di Design
Industrial Design - Interior Design - Packaging Design - Lighting Des
Training offer for the 2006/2007 Academic Year at Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan: research, experimentation and growth for the designers of tomorrow
Let's start from the concept of design itself. In the middle there is an object together with its functionality, and its aesthetical and structural features that are in harmony with one another according to rigid and rational logics.
The designer dominates such a harmony, and he becomes the father of the creative process implying a recognized fruition and functionality that must also be recognized by the consumers.
Since academic year 2001/2002 Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan has been proposing the Master Research Study Programs - RSP -, real full-time one-year research routes in Italian and English, whose objective is to train future designers and professionals in the fields of Industrial Design, Interior Design, Packaging Design and Lighting Design.
The Master Programs are characterized by a tight collaboration with companies that actively support the development of experimental projects, thus confirming and further enhancing the approach of IED to a training method based on the comparison with professionals of the sector and on the design process. So, the Master Research Study Program proposes itself as a real experimental lab with important companies of the sector ordering the participants a project for the development of a concept. Students coming from all over the world, divided in teamworks, confront themselves and collaborate together for the realization of the project while mastering all the critical points of every step. This is a unique formula of this kind able to develop competences not only at a practical, but also at an operating level.
Training offer of the Academic Year 2006/2007
Master RSP in Industrial Design The constant growth of competition in markets makes the collaboration between the functions of design, marketing, technology and communication even more important.
The designer, in fact, must be able to collaborate with these departments and define strategies, brand positioning and product functionality.
The course aims at training professionals able to research and design according to the client's needs and the consumer's requirements in order to build a scenario and develop a project in which the specific features are exalted thus making a successful product. In the last edition students worked for important companies of the High Tech and mass consumption sector such as Fedon, Whirlpool and 3M.
Fifth edition starting in January 2007.
Master RSP in Light Design The use of the sources of light has recently become more refined and now light design is a vital part of architecture and design. At the same time, the request of light technicians and designers has increased: companies, public bodies, private clients as well as professional studios are now looking for light designers able to design and calibrate the lighting of spaces and buildings.
The course aims at training professionals and experts able to control and manipulate light as well as to master the areas of research, design and marketing in the production field of lighting devices.
This Master course offers, next to theoretical lectures dedicated to the acquisition of historical and critical sciences concerning light, an important training contribution in practical disciplines such as lighting technique, light design, optics simulation and calibration and design of lighting devices.
The competences acquired by the participants find real application in the designing part of the Master. Last year, several important companies in the field of the lighting technique such as Simes, Clay Paky, De Sisti Lighting and Ilti participated in the course, just like other companies that have understood the importance of light management (even as a communication factor) such as the city council of Lainate for Villa Litta Borromeo, Epta, or Villa Reale in Milan.
Fifth edition starting in January 2007.
Master RSP in Packaging Design The packaging of goods is an industrial product that can become a unique and distinguishing factor: moreover, the multiplicity of its functions (containing, protection, information, identification) and its technical features must be studied for each different type of content.
So, packaging becomes an object of design that must meet the communication needs of the product and of the brand, assuming in this way also a strategic function.
The participants will acquire solid notions on the design of industrial packaging thanks to which they can face the design part, getting in touch with the different structures and figures that are present in the production pipeline of the "packaging" product and with the clients/companies. Last year students collaborated with Lineagraf, Fedon and Maplast.
Fourth edition starting in January 2007.
Master RSP in Interior Design In the present global market, while architecture is having difficulties in finding a balance between its real standard use and the enthusiasm of its identification, Interior Designer is looking for new stories to tell.
Such stories are made of reassembled concepts, new emerging fragments and re-invented and de-contextualized words in order to obtain new meanings.
In order to face such changes, the Master course in Interior Design aims at training professionals with an adequate preparation, able to conceptually organize an original and functional environment built through the coordination of all operating phases. In the last edition of the Master students designed for the famous gym brand Down Town, for Boscolo Hotels Group and for Steelcase, a company specialized in office furniture.
Third edition starting in January 2007.
