The Micro-Compact Home to Appear at Engadinwind 2006 Lake Silvaplana

The award winning micro-compact home (m-ch), a revolutionary light-weight low energy dwelling, will make the first of a series of appearances in Switzerland this month when erected at Lake Silvaplana as part of the Stimorol Engadinwind 2006.
The m-ch has been developed at the Technical University Munich Institute by Professor Richard Horden and his team of students and assistants. The same team are working in partnership with the team of Professor Pfammatter on the development of the eventcenter Silvaplana. The m-ch combines high-tech sophistication with low energy use in a neat space-saving aluminium cube, which touches the earth lightly.
The m-ch first sparked international media interest in November when a case study village of seven units was unveiled for students of the University. Its resounding success with the students is no surprise. The m-ch features integrated furniture, sound system, plasma-screen, communication and energy systems, making it the ultimate high-tech crash pad.
With a substantially reduced building volume and low maintenance construction the m-ch advocates 'less material, more nature', making it the ideal dwelling for outdoor events in areas of natural beauty. The dwellings can be easily transported and erected on any terrain without foundations, offering the privilege of living on the edge of the action in extreme conditions without forgoing modern conveniences.
A subframe with three legs raises the m-ch above the ground providing natural space and airflow between the 1.8 tonne cube and the ground surface, minimising disturbance. The legs are height adjustable to enable the micro homes to be located horizontally on any gradient. In extreme conditions such as mountain slopes a lighter weight cube (1.4 tonnes) is available with lifting points for helicopter delivery.
The latest model, which is in production in Austria, is completely self-sustainable featuring LED lighting, photovoltaic solar panels and a vertical axis wind generator mounted on the mast and the roof. It makes the perfect off-piste crash pad for snowboarders and skiers. The kit includes a lockable external drawer for skis and snowboards and comes with the option of glass fronted clip-on micro wood burning stoves and log store for warmth and atmosphere of a log cabin.

The micro-compact home (m-ch) is a2.65m aluminium cubic pod, which integrates communication and energy systems and requires no furniture. The layout is influenced by traditional Japanese tea-house architecture with space divided into distinct zonal layers. Features include a plasma screen, built in hi-fi and fully fitted kitchen. Several units can be mounted on a separate external aluminium frame system in a vertical formation around a central lift and stair core to form a "village". The 02 Village illustrates an alternative horizontal assembly of units accessed from a 1mraised pathway containing services supplies.
