Design Within Reach Announces Mentorship with California College of the Arts
Design Within Reach announced today that they will be collaborating with the California College of the Arts San Francisco campus for a course specializing in contemporary seating design. The course will address issues involved in the creation and production of sustainable seating solutions for the contract and residential markets. The curriculum was developed with Design Within Reach executives who will provide guidance to young designers throughout the semester.
"Cultivating and supporting emerging design talent at institutions like the California College of the Arts is one of the most fulfilling aspects of what we do" said Ray Brunner, CEO of Design Within Reach. "We hope to challenge young designers to create innovative and sustainable designs that will endure for generations."
Over a period of thirteen weeks, student designers will create four separate projects that examine all aspects of developing and creating sustainable seating solutions for the marketplace. Course curriculum will include an awareness of the contract and residential markets and how they work; the product development process as it exists in those industries; the manufacturing and material processes commonly used; ergonomic and human factor consideration, full scale product detailing and full scale model making. Jennifer Morla, Creative Director, and Karen John, Director of Product Development for DWR will participate in the mid-year and final course evaluations.
