Marmol Radziner Prefab: Open House
Award-Winning Sustainable Prefab Residence Re-Opens Doors to the Publi

Tours of the "Desert House," a prototype for modern prefab homes by the awardwining Los Angeles-based architects Marmol Radziner + Associates. The home is the private residence of managing principal Leo Marmol and his wife Alisa Becket, and it combines the efficiency of factory-built construction with the benefits of custom residential design. The open house allows visitors to explore the growing interest in modern prefab homes by touring a prototype for the new venture Marmol Radziner Prefab. The last open house drew over 4,000 visitors from around the state and country.

The Desert House is a 2,100 sq.-ft. custom recycled steel-frame residence that was prefabricated in a factory and installed on site. It features floor-to-ceiling windows, custom teak cabinets, and a gourmet kitchen. The house doubles its size with an additional 2,450 square feet of outdoor living spaces, which overlook a pool, fire pit, and unparalleled vistas of the San Jacinto Mountains. The north wing of the house also includes guest quarters and studio space. As part of the green design of the Desert House, solar panels supply all electrical power to the home.
The Desert House is an example of Marmol Radziner Prefab's custom floor plans and details designed and fabricated to match specific site and client needs. The firm also offers five standard models. The Marmol Radziner Prefab homes range from $225 to $275 per square foot leaving the factory, including pre-installed interior and exterior finishes, flooring, appliances, and fixtures. Foundations, installation, and delivery cost an additional $50 per square foot on average.
