Format Milton Architects Shortlisted for the Civic Trust Awards 2007
Format Milton Architects project "The Maltings" has been shortlisted for the prestigious Civic Trust Awards 2007, the largest and most comprehensive environmental design awards scheme in Europe.
The Maltings, originally an 1850's Grade II listed brewing house, has been successfully converted into a highly effective community centre for the town of Alton in Hampshire, comprising of a Church, a 500 seat auditorium, meeting rooms, sports activity areas, a bookshop, offices and a café for the town. The design merges 19th century construction with 21st century design, while maintaining the original purpose of the space through the careful considerations of Format Milton's design. Within a year of its opening The Maltings has already matured into a core central public space that plays a fundamental role in bringing the community together.
Established in 1959 the Civic Trust Awards recognises architecture and environmental design that makes an exceptional contribution to the built environment, while also taking into account how schemes relate to their settings and the people that use them.

The winners of the 2007 Civic Trust Awards will be announced spring 2007.
