at HK Toys & Games Fair
Chinese Manufacturers Blocked From Showcasing Infringed SeaScooter Products at HK Trade Fair
DAKA Warns That It Will Act Against Copycats
Daka Designs Ltd, a Hong Kong based product design and marketing company, announced that the Hong Kong Trade Development Council ("HKTDC") has acted on its complaint against Zhejiang Shenmao Appliance Co. Ltd and Shanghai Winsun Imp & Exp Co Ltd for displaying pirated versions of DAKA's SEA-DOOSEASCOOTER™ products at The Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair.
HKTDC has requested both exhibitors to cease all displays and dealings in relation to the infringed products during the Fair. The HKTDC has enforced this by observing their booths during the Fair and ensuring their compliance. DAKA owns the copyright for the design of the SEA-DOOSEASCOOTER™ worldwide.
"We are serious about protecting our Intellectual Property Rights. Our business model depends on the creation and protection of our product and engineering designs and we will act to preserve our intellectual property rights in all markets," said Pat Mah, executive chairman of DAKA. "DAKA is associated with the creation of innovative, world-class consumer products and we protect our hard-earned reputation at all costs."
As a result of HKTDC's action, Zhejiang Shenmao Appliance Co. Ltd and Shanghai Winsun Imp & Exp Co Ltd have each issued a letter of undertaking not to promote the infringed products during the Fair.
"We reserve our rights against Zhejiang Shenmao Appliance and Shanghai Winsun Imp & Exp. This incident demonstrates that Asia still lags behind the West in terms of Intellectual Property Rights protection. This will discourage investments in design and development and prevent truly Asian-Designed products to be placed on the world map. We will act on those companies who infringe our products," Mr. Mah added.
DAKA has 18 patents for its SEA-DOOSEASCOOTER™ products and a Consumer Product Design award for its SEA-DOOSEASCOOTER™ DOLPHIN, at last year's Hong Kong Awards for Industry.
