Delta and Richard Tyler Unveil New Uniform Design
Los Angeles-based fashion designer Richard Tyler, renowned for his impeccable tailoring and elegant eveningwear, will debut his newly designed Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) uniform collection on the runway during Fall 2005 New York Fashion Week. Tyler's couture designs, which have been worn on the red carpet by such celebrities as Jamie Lee Curtis, Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman, Rachel Griffiths, Catherine Zeta Jones, Pierce Brosnan, Sarah Jessica Parker, Heather Locklear and Faith Hill among others, will also be shown on the runway in conjunction with the new Delta uniform collection. The pairing of these two elements on the runway is unique to the fashion industry, and promises to be an exceptional interpretation of both form and function.
The sophisticated and perfectly tailored new uniforms will be worn by more than 20,000 Delta Air Lines public contact employees worldwide beginning early 2006. The new look is part of the airline's transformation plan, long-term brand strategy and investment in distinguishing itself in the marketplace.
"Richard Tyler's extraordinary fashion vision and attention to quality has resulted in a uniform design that complements Delta's product, brand and image transformation strategy," said Paul Matsen, Delta's chief marketing officer. "Delta's customer service professionals are ambassadors of the Delta brand and will embody confidence and professionalism in their sophisticated new attire. For Delta customers, the new uniforms represent our commitment to provide a superior as well as stylish travel experience for our customers worldwide." Delta's various employees working in the airport, Crown Room Clubs, city ticket offices, and onboard its airplanes will sport distinct variations of Tyler's designs.
With the use of powerful colors such as midnight, navy, red, platinum and gold, Tyler makes a strong departure from the light grey uniforms of Delta's past. The tailored wardrobe includes knitwear and outerwear to cover all work styles and seasons. Additionally, Tyler will unveil uniform accessory options later this month, including shoes and luggage, that Delta employees can choose to purchase.
"Being able to create a uniform that employees will feel proud to wear and that reflects Delta's rich history and commitment to quality air travel was a wonderful opportunity," explains Tyler. "It allowed me to expand upon the usual boundaries of fashion design to bring back the timeless elegance and style that was very much alive in history during the classic age of travel."
