Brickyard VFX Lights Up the Neighborhood for AT&T

Suburbia.mov ( 7MB ) - Viewed 187 times Artist-owned-and-operated effects company Brickyard VFX brings AT&T to residential communities across the nation for the company's new Dish Network promotion. Directed by Robert Logevall for ad agency GSD&M, the commercial features an AT&T van driving through a suburban neighborhood, turning on television sets in each house as it passes by.
The :30 commercial promotes AT&T broadband services. The spot opens on a typical suburban neighborhood street at dusk. As an AT&T van drives past dark homes, windows light up, indicating the flicker of television sets within. The spot continues as the van drives by on a completely darkened street, illuminating windows as it passes by homes. The camera pulls away higher and higher as it reveals an entire neighborhood being lit up as the van continues on its way.
The spot was shot through dark neighborhoods at dusk with lighting effects and CG added in by the Brickyard VFX team. Extensive compositing work was completed to add the glow and flicker of television sets as the van passes by. The closing shot in the spot is essentially a giant 2D matte painting of the neighborhood as viewed from above. Many of the houses are completely computer generated and a CG van was created to help bring the effects together.
