Metropolitan Home's LA Showhouse: Modern by Design

Metropolitan Home, the definitive resource in modern design and contemporary style, announces its new LA|Open House: Modern by Design showhouse located in West Hollywood. Donna Warner, editor-in-chief of Metropolitan Home, brought together ten of the country's most sought-after designers to showcase their unique interpretation of modern living and design resulting in an awe-inspiring dream house. The ten interior designers include Barbara Barry, Xorin Balbes, Michael Berman, Fernando Diaz, Julie Eizenberg, Jarrett Hedborg, Antonia Hutt, Kerry Joyce, Michaela Scherrer, and Marjorie Skouras. Each designer has lent their talent and unique modern design sensibilities to create a chic, contemporary home that successfully cultivates the magazine's unique aesthetic.
To celebrate the grand opening of the LA|Open House: Modern by Design showhouse, Metropolitan Home will host a charitable gala event on Thursday, March 29, 2007, which will benefit local non-profits, Project Angel Food and UCLA AIDS Institute. Donna Warner and the distinguished designers will be available to discuss their inspirational designs over cocktails and appetizers from the Chef Wayne Elias of Crumble Catering. Guests are invited to experience first-hand the designers' creativity and hard work, while supporting Project Angel Food and UCLA AIDS Institute.
"A showhouse inspires and allows one to dream, and Metropolitan Home's LA|Open House is no exception," says Donna Warner, Metropolitan Home's editor-in-chief. "By partnering with Project Angel Food and the UCLA AIDS Institute, we have the chance to give back and make dreams come true for others."
Located in the chic "Bird Streets" above Sunset Boulevard, the LA|Open House: Modern by Design showhouse is an elegant union of contemporary architecture and design. The modern residence is infused with Art Deco touches throughout. Beautiful polished silver travertine panels decorate the front of the home as well as the pool and barbeque areas. Terrazzo floor tiles add to the classic, mid-century modern feel of the house which harmoniously melds interior and exterior spaces with floor to ceiling windows and glass doors. The lush outdoor garden, complete with California native plants and water features, finish the look of this contemporary gem.
The award-winning talented design team includes: - Critically-acclaimed interior designer, Barbara Barry, who brings her elegant style and sophistication to the living room and dining room. - Award-winning architectural conservator, designer and philanthropist, Xorin Balbes, who infuses the kitchen and bathroom with his distinct style - peace and harmony. Beautiful custom cabinetry, Cesar Stone countertops and Miele appliances complete the look. - Michael Berman, one of the country's most respected designers, who delivers his signature, understated glamour to the bedroom. Inspired by the home's clean lines and pure architecture, the room is a study in white and gray's with small bursts of color, creating a crisp and serene space to rest in. - Cuban-born interior designer Fernando Diaz, who integrates his classic style with modern chic appeal to the collector's room. - Julie Eizenberg, who infuses innovative design into the garage area, features part billboard and part riff on pegboard to create a more theatrical and welcoming experience for the homeowner. - Jarrett Hedborg and partner Jeff Hiner, who create a lively and colorful cocktail room full of vibrant colors and elegant, art-deco furniture pieces. - The versatile London-born Antonia Hutt, who exhibits both her understanding of the exceptional and her love for refinement in the dog's room. Using green turf carpet and red and black paint, she marks the perfect territory for any four-legged companion. - Los Angeles-based designer Kerry Joyce, brings his love for detail and fine materials to the master bedroom. Using French 40's and art-deco style pieces and accents, he creates a serene space overlooking the lush garden and pool areas. - Michaela Scherrer, who harmoniously integrates her use of fine materials into the second bedroom. - Marjorie Skouras, who marries traditional style with a playful modern twist in the beautifully crafted family room. The Vivienne Westwood "Rubbish" rug from the Rug Company sets the whimsical yet elegant tone of this room.
