Zeitlian has nearly twenty years of professional experience as an architect and has worked on projects around the world in countries such as China, Japan, Malaysia, Czech Republic and Saudi Arabia in addition to numerous buildings he has designed throughout Southern California. His projects include a wide-range of commercial, educational, retail and entertainment facilities, varying from college buildings, to super high-rise structures, to comprehensive community master plans.
According to Leo a Daly Executive Vice President, Charles Dalluge, "Hraztan Zeitlian brings with him not only an impressive portfolio of design work, but also a passion for design excellence and sustainability, which are core components of Leo a Daly's design philosophy."
Strongly influenced by technological innovations and methodologies in design, Zeitlian has created projects entirely with advanced Building Information Modeling software (BIM). He actively incorporates sustainable design concepts in creative ways, and is a LEED Accredited Professional. He has designed several projects that have been submitted for certification by the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. One such project designed prior to joining Leo a Daly, West Los Angeles College Classroom/Student Services building, has been submitted for LEED Silver certification for its environmental sensitivity.
Zeitlian studied architecture at the American University of Beirut and later received a bachelor's degree in architecture as well as a bachelor's degree in fine arts from the Rhode Island School of Design. He obtained a master's degree in advanced architectural design from Columbia University. He is a registered architect in the state of California.
Zeitlian's work has received many prestigious awards such as the national American Architecture Award of the Chicago Athenaeum in 2006 for his design of a high-rise office building in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and the AIA Los Angeles Chapter's 2007 Next LA Award for his highly innovative design scheme for a library in Prague, Czech Republic. His work has been featured in a number of design exhibitions including SCI-Arc in 2006, and he has been published extensively in periodicals such as Domus, Architectural Record, Contract, and LA Architect. He served as editor and designer of Semiotext(e)/Architecture, a review of experimental architecture, in 1991. In the same year, he founded Struere, an independent architectural research group.
He is chair of the AIA Los Angeles Chapter's design awards committee, and serves on the board of directors of the Southern California Development Forum.
