Moonlies: Singapore Design Festival
Moonlies : Post-show Images

Introduction "Moonlies" seeks to depict the internal decay of society consumed with perfect visual images of the female form. What seems to be perfect in the dark under the moon may not necessary be as youth and beauty are merely temporary. A stylish minimalist installation piece, it is the collaboration between the genres of fashion and photography, artists Harry Halim and Warren Wee showcasing as part of Singapore Design Festival 2007.
Title&Rationale In astronomy libration refers to the various orbital conditions that make it possible to see more than 50% of the moon's surface over time, even though the front of the Moon is tidally locked to always face towards the earth. In the specific case of the Moon's librations, this motion permits a terrestrial observer to see slightly differing halves of the Moon's surface at different times. This means that a total of 59% of the Moon's surface can be observed from Earth.
A lethal combination, fashion and media are a mirror to what the ideal female form is. Skinny models sashaying down the runway, skinny models posing for glossy fashion magazines, is this THE ideal female form? Or is it just a deliberate systematic attempt to shape perceptions and manipulate cognitions? Are we just looking at half of the picture like how the moon lies every night?
The artists hope to show fashion visuals in a different light, and hopefully some self-reflection.
Harryhalim The winner of the Asian Young Fashion Designer Contest and Singapore Fashion Designer Contest in 2006, and also recently awarded Best Young Fashion Designer Of The Year at the CLEO's Awards 2007, harryhalim has been making waves locally and regionally. With an attraction to the sombre seduction of Dark & Confused elements, harryhalim reflects his attention to raw finishing, unique details in technical aspects and construction. His Spring-Summer 2008 collection launched during Singapore Fashion Week 2007, drew good responses from UK & Australian buyers, it is suffice to say that harryhalim is Singapore's most promising young arbiter of local fashion.
WarrenWee A purveyor of images quirky and edgy, WarrenWee has recently won the British D&AD New Blood 2007 award, and also Gold and bronze for photography during the Crowbar Awards 2007 organized by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Singapore. His images were also on display during Singapore Fashion Week 2007's tee-shirt exhibition at Vivocity to raise HIV/AIDS awareness. Warren's passion lies in conceptualising, fashion, music and visual arts.
