Motion Theory Hires Industry Leader Angie Jones as Animation Supervisor
Motion Theory recently announced the hire of Angie Jones to the position of Animation Supervisor. With more than 14 years of experience in creature and character animation for blockbuster films, TV, commercials and video games, Angie is charged with strengthening the studio's animation department, pushing the ideals of how computer animated characters look and move, and overseeing animation teams for all 3D and 2D project work.
Angie's portfolio boasts 12 films and over 30 commercials and video games. Her work can be seen in major films including three-time Oscar winner, Pan's Labyrinth; Stuart Little, a VES Society award-winner for character animation; National Treasure and National Treasure: Book of Secrets; X2: X-Men United; Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed; Garfield and others. Her commercial reel is equally impressive and includes her leadership role on Disney's '50th Anniversary' campaign as well as the AMP energy drink "Paper" spot, winner of the bronze Clio in 2007 and recently nominated for outstanding "Animated Character in a Live Action Broadcast Program or Commercial" by the Visual Effects Society (VES). She has also contributed to spots for Coca-Cola, Chrysler, Nintendo, Popsicle, and Geico Insurance's iconic Gecko spots. Additionally, Angie's work is found in popular video games such as, Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus, and Munch's Oddysee, Dino Crises 3 and Red Dead Revolver, to name a few. Angie enjoys the challenge of moving back and forth amongst the "sweet and endearing" and the "evil and deadly."
Angie's work doesn't stop on the screen - she has penned several educationally focused books that address the professional aspects of character animation. Her most recent, "Thinking Animation," published in 2006, discusses the future of computer animation while retaining core values that traditional animators use as formulas and principles. Angie has also taught at academic institutions including, Dhima in Santa Monica and the Gnomon School of Visual Effects, the leading VFX training center in Los Angeles. In addition, Angie serves on the advisory board for the LA Film Schools new computer animation program.
"Angie brings with her an incredible wealth of talent and knowledge and we're honored to welcome her to the studio," said Javier Jimenez, executive producer and co-founder of Motion Theory. "We look for the most exceptional artists who fit in to our collaborative setting, and Angie's innovative vision will only complement the team."
Angie's main goal is to bring high-end character animation into the established Motion Theory studio model, which combines the efforts of in-house directors, animators, designers, writers, and other artists throughout the creative and production process. As Animation Supervisor, Angie will lead a veteran team of both 3D and 2D animation artists, building on the company's track record of visual storytelling and technical innovation.
"Motion Theory is a collection of some of the most cutting edge and forward thinkers in our industry," said Angie. "The teams overflow with imagination and excitement. I've admired the studio's work for years and am very excited to join the effort."
