Philips Showcases New Range of Remotes for Microsoft Windows Vista
Philips is today showcasing its complete range of remote controls specifically designed to control PCs running the Windows Media Center in the Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Media Ultimate operating system. The range, comprised of a suite of models for PC OEMs, gives users complete power over multimedia PC features from the comfort of the couch, turning any Windows Vista PC into a fully functional entertainment system.
The Philips Windows Vista range of remotes for PC OEMs offers a comprehensive set of remote controls to suit various customer needs. The portfolio is available in a variety of appealing designs, and besides infrared solutions also includes one-way and two-way RF models that enable users to control their PCs even when in other rooms. The flagship remote in the Philips Windows Vista family has an integrated LCD screen that allows users to browse their music library and select a song without having to look at the PC or TV screen. For effortless integration with PC set-ups, the range includes a host of compact USB receivers in both external dongle and built-in module form. In addition to advanced features for controlling Windows Vista PCs, several Philips remotes for PC OEMs include universal and learning capabilities for quick and easy control over the basic functions of virtually any TV set and set-top-boxes.
Developed in close partnership with Microsoft, the Philips remote control product family for Windows Vista is also backward-compatible with Windows XP. The range makes full use of the Philips infrared RC6 protocol, which was selected by Microsoft for its security and reliability.
Demonstrating its commitment as an innovative leader in the remote control space, Philips will exhibit at Computex the latest version of a remote control that supports Windows Sideshow. This innovative Vista-powered technology enables interactive control of the Media Center experience, allowing the user to browse and play music, pictures, TV shows, and electronic programming guide data. In addition, it provides convenient access to information like news-feeds, stock quotes, and emails on the remote's LCD display.
"Microsoft Vista represents the next step in the evolution of the PC to a full-blown entertainment system. Thanks to its pioneering relationship with Microsoft, Philips has responded directly to this need with this range of groundbreaking yet easy-to-use remotes that are designed around the user," said Xavier Delmeiren, General Manager Home Control, Philips Consumer Electronics.
