Shining
Functionality and Romanticism combined - in the interplay of light and shadows by this wall- or ceilingmounted luminaire.
The luminaire with its high-grade finishing was designed by Peter Buning for lighting specialist Absolut Lighting. It uses a light filter to project decorative shadows onto the walls or ceiling but delivers light that is still strong enough to illuminate a room.
Thanks to its intelligent structure, there are no patches of dazzle or distortion. The projection surface is about 3 m in diameter. There are seven different motifs available to choose from. The luminaire itself is 20 cm in diameter and is made of steel and glass, and uses a low-pressure 75W halogen lamp.
The luminaire was one of the winners at this year's European Innovation Competition for Lighting Design, "nachlux" 2007. The jury commented in making the award that "the theatrical tone given everyday life is making great progress and increasingly light is used to set the stage. Often, all that is achieved is a cheap effect, but with this luminaire the result if very refined: transparent, to great effect, very variable and usable in countless settings. An ensemble of these luminaires can create impressive largescale image projections. Simply - light as the medium of neo-analog virtuality."
"Shining" costs EUR 299 from retailers and can be purchased from various authorized dealers or from the Absolut Lighting online shop.
