When Summer Menefee, director of the Family Resource Room at Children's Hospital Boston, described how important it was for her group to be able to inform and inspire their patients and families, CDIABU students took the challenge to heart.
Inspired by the need to make cancer an accessible topic for kids, CDIABU's 3D animation department has developed an animated short titled The Adventures of Zak and Dakota, the story of a child battling cancer.
Upon completion, this resource will be translated into multiple languages and made available worldwide.
"It's not just that our students get a real world experience from this project," says 3D animation instructor Andrew Britton.
"They also get to make a difference."
And making a difference is exactly what they will attempt on May 10, 2008, when the Center hosts a 24-hour animation marathon devoted exclusively to completing this project for Children's Hospital Boston.
Students and alumni will work from 5:00pm on May 10 to 5:00pm on May 11, coming together, generating ideas and just animating, animating, animating.

Fahrenheit Studio, a new media design and 21st century branding firm, today announced their design and re-branding of another popular investment management site, WrapManager.
When WrapManager, a 360 degree wealth management company, needed to re-brand their corporate financial website they turned to a 360 branding firm, Fahrenheit Studio.
As a result, the new WrapManager website uniquely stands out from the many other financial players on the Web, giving them a competitive advantage.
Financial-services companies have long been big online marketers, at the same time, firms' online efforts are poorly designed and lack a clear marketing focus.
"The problem with the status quo is that financial websites are impersonal and monotonously deliver their business message without providing a great experience for their customers," said Fahrenheit co-founder and director Bob Weitz.
"We learned to tell stories in a passionate straight forward way while producing sites for the music industry.
It's amazing what punchy design and a focused message can do to activate and drive the right kind of traffic."

New York-based editorial and VFX/motion design shop Version2 announces its partnership with CG animation and VFX shop, Special Branch, forming Special Branch @V2.
The partnership expands V2's current presence, ability, and scope allowing them to deliver a wider range of services and talent depth to its clients.
Special Branch is run by Partners/Artists Fran Roberts and Ed Manning.
The SB @V2 deal provides an additional dimension to the growing resources available at the VFX/motion design division of V2.
Elaborating on the new relationship, V2's Head of Production Frank Devlin notes, "Having worked directly with Ed Manning, as a freelancer and then later when he started Special Branch, I was always impressed with the photoreal quality of his work.
He achieves the highest production value on every project.
Special Branch is a great compliment to the V2 companies and gives us the CG production support to compete in high end VFX projects."

Behavior, an interactive design team, was retained by 4Kids Entertainment, a major licensee of children's media, to strategically develop their online presence.
The new site's platform serves as a showcase for all 4Kids Entertainment properties including Pokemon, Ninja Turtles, Viva Pinata, Chaotic, among others.
The initiative called for a design that would enhance the user-experience while sustaining a multi-brand community.
In an effort to accommodate their young audience Behavior approached the project as if the site were a gaming console similar to wii and Xbox.
This familiar interface allows users of all ages to share in the experience and gives 4Kids a chance to increase community participation.
The site previews the latest shows, buzz articles, new avatar accessories, contests, and a video interface for each brand identity.
By providing each property with its own homepage Behavior was able to create a consistent interface structure that revolves around the user while simultaneously maintaining the integrity of each independent brand.
While the look and feel of each branded page remains true to its unique identity, the site in its entirety utilizes a global modular framework.
While this ensures a consistent user-experience, it also provides 4Kids Entertainment with the flexibility necessary to accommodate future growth.

Each day, we interact with hundreds of technological devices that help us organize our lives, achieve our goals, and indulge in our passions.
For children today, technology is especially pervasive in all aspects of life.
They learn and play using computers and other technological devices; as they grow, they build and maintain friendships using computers and mobile phones; they interact with one another virtually; and even find critical interpersonal support and therapy using computers, the internet and other technology-enhanced products.
Given the ubiquity of technology in children's lives, it is surprising that so few venues bring together those who are concerned with designing the technologies and the interactions with technology that are so important to children's lives.
For this reason, IDC 2008 will bring together, in the diverse city of Chicago, an international community of researchers, educators, and industry professionals concerned with interaction design for children, in order to think outside the toybox.
