Adobe Systems is readying the second version of its popular Creative Suite bundle of professional graphics software applications. The current version includes Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and GoLive.
Adobe plans to announce the Creative Suite update on April 4, but a statement announcing part of the bundle was inadvertently posted to the company's Web site over the weekend. The statement has since been removed, but not before it was indexed and cached by Google's search engine and picked up by enthusiast Web site Neowin.net.
In the statement, Adobe announces Photoshop CS2 and says it will ship the update in May. Photoshop CS2 is a key component of Creative Suite 2, which, according to the statement, will also be announced on April 4. PC World will post its review of the new Adobe suite on April 4.
Adobe spokesman Russell Brady declined to confirm the authenticity of the statement because of an Adobe policy not to discuss unannounced products, but did say that "Web hiccups happen from time to time."
In late 2003, Adobe released the first Creative Suite software bundled with new versions of its applications. That release was the first time Adobe put out new full versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and GoLive simultaneously. The company said at the time that it p

Nokia, the world's leading mobile phone maker, and Wallpaper*, the highly influential international design and lifestyle publication, have joined forces to create Wallpaper* to go..., a mobile site for design, interiors, lifestyle, fashion and travel tips and trends.
The site's introduction coincides with the availability of the distinctly bold Nokia fashion collection - the Nokia 7260, Nokia 7270 and Nokia 7280 - in major markets throughout the world. With a color screen and GPRS high-speed connectivity, each model from the Nokia fashion collection can access fashion tips and design trends at the press of a button.
"The Nokia - Wallpaper* cooperation is an ideal marriage," says Heikki Norta, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Nokia. "Nokia brings our experience and expertise in mobility, while Wallpaper* adds its unique perspective on the world of design, interiors, fashion and travel. We believe Wallpaper* to go... will appeal to style-conscious Nokia mobile phone owners who like to keep an eye on the catwalks of London and Paris, the furniture shows in Milan, or ideas for that once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Seychelles."
"As two global brands with a strong heritage in design, appealing to a sophisticated dual audience, there is a perfect synergy for us to work so closely together," says Andrew Black, Executive Pu

Many people over a certain age will recall with fondness the TV adverts for Mr Kipling's cakes. Whilst a man with a voice like gargling straw recalls how that 'nice' Mr Kipling made delicious cakes on his farmhouse kitchen table (I would guess about 12 million in a good year), we all knew full well that his fondant fancies started life in a string of large factories. By this same logic the animation studio Astley Baker Davies, the prodigious producers of Peppa Pig the award winning children's series which is shown in over 60 countries (yes there really are that many, I checked) should have an exceedingly large animation factory. This is not the case.
In fact the studio founded in 1994 by Neville Astley and Mark Baker, and later joined by Phil Davies in order that the company could sound more like a firm of LA attornies, is really the animation equivalent of that aforementioned farmhouse kitchen. It is a small, friendly studio that manages to produce a constant stream of top quality animation. By assembling a small dynamic team and a with a far from mystical combination of talent and enthusiasm, Astley Baker Davies have been able to produce in Peppa Pig a modern children's animation classic. A classic that has been lauded worldwide .The mantelpiece at that farmhouse would have to be very long indeed.

The new film from the creators of "Ice Age" isn't just a triumph of computer animation, though it surely is that as well. Its design is amazing, a riotous Mixmaster of pre-1950 styles and colors.
Too often we don't pay attention to the design that's all around us, particularly if that design is now classified as antique -- even if we have warm feelings for that old Waring blender (with the chrome base and clover-leaf pitcher), Toastmaster toaster or 1948 Cadillac.
Earl, sadly reduced to a ghostly pitchman for Buick in an ad campaign a few years back, designed that car, just as Loewy designed the classic Electrolux vacuum cleaner (building on the work of Lurelle Guild) and Paul Rand created the IBM logo. Indeed, much of their work still seems fresh. Yet they remain pretty much unknown, despite the ubiquity and influence of their work.
Modern designers -- some of them, anyway -- have had better luck. Target has devoted whole departments to the work of Michael Graves and Phillippe Starck, automakers highlight J Mays (Ford) and Chris Bangle (BMW) and chic hotels trumpet the credits of their interior designers.
So perhaps we should note the names of the "Robots" makers: director Chris Wedge, production designer William Joyce, art director Steve Martino and the whole group of talents at Blue Sky Studios.
