German motor manufacturer Audi has turned to moody 3D animation to support the launch of its new A6 online.
The top-of-the range executive motor is showcased in a bespoke microsite, developed by digital agency Good Technology to integrate with the above-the-line launch by advertising agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty.
It follows the unveiling of a microsite dedicated to exhibiting the manufacturer's stable of seven TT coupes last month.
The agency commissioned 3D animation from RealTimeUK to reveal the car emerging from total darkness to sit within a halo of light. User interaction takes visitors around the product in dramatic perspective, to show off the motor's best angles.
Media agency MediaCom has bought space across seven sites for the online launch including Guardian.co.uk, TheTimes.co.uk and TopGear.com as well as space on multiple TV channels.
Good Technology has created pre-launch banners and rich media to drive traffic to the A6 model pages on the main Audi site in the launch run-up.
Alex Champion, senior Audi designer at Good Technology, said: "The use of a photo-realistic 3D model enabled us to add a depth and focus to the production that would have otherwise been impossible. This in conjunction with the moody soundtrack and embedded video, to provide a rich yet simple user experience."

"Welcome Taiwan" is showcasing 14 Taiwanese animations at the annual Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France, which takes place from June 7 to June 12.
The 40 year-old animation film festival is introducing animation films from Taiwan for the first time and the shorts will be screened at Bonlieu, at the festival venue.
The program consists of works by young filmmakers from Taiwan's top animation schools. With various sources and materials, the new generation of animation makers express a refreshing creativity.
Among the films in the program are: Mindscape by Hsieh Pei-wen, Two Sides by Chiou Hsien-yuan and Crossing Boundaries by Su Zhi-ming.
"These works can be seen as the new hope of Taiwan's animation industry," said Chen yi-ching, programmer of the Taiwan International Animation Festival.
In the past, Taiwan's animation industry was only known for its manufacturing ability doing OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) works for Hollywood Studios such as Disney and Warner Brothers. The leading Taiwanese animation company Wang Films was behind production work on Mulan, The Lion King, Lilo & Stitch and The Little Mermaid.

This week, the video-game industry will descend on Los Angeles, along with a motley cast of zombies, aliens and the like.
But wait -- that zombie looks awfully familiar. And hasn't that alien been here before?
The Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, kicks off Monday night. But when it comes to the biggest games of the show, much of the suspense is already gone: the industry has come to rely more heavily than ever before on sequels. Even the show itself is something of a sequel, as many of the games featured this year have been previewed already.
"It's going to be a really exciting E3, but at the same time it's going to be really disappointing, because the biggest games, the biggest software titles, are going to be the same ones we saw last year," said Dan "Shoe" Hsu, editor of leading games magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly. Among the sequels starring in this year's show that also featured in the last E3 in some form are Halo 2 from Microsoft, Half-Life 2 from Valve Software and Gran Turismo 4 from Sony.
U.S. sales growth for the games industry has slowed from double-digit gains to single-digit increases. For the current year, estimates vary widely, with some analysts seeing growth of as little as 3 percent unless sales get a boost from console-hardware price cuts.

Call it the Giant Switch Theory: At some point, global warming will send enough polar ice slush into the ocean to turn off the flow of warm air and water. In a flash, weather around the Earth will turn monstrous -- killer tornadoes in Los Angeles, super tsunamis in Manhattan and football-sized ice chunks dropping from the sky in Tokyo.
Though scientists might not buy this theory -- especially the in-a-flash part -- Hollywood sure has. Fox's $125 million The Day After Tomorrow is built on the idea that global warming could explode into global disaster at any moment.
Such a scenario is scary to imagine -- scarier, certainly, than those of other disaster movies. Earthquakes and twisters are too localized, aliens and giant spiders too ludicrous. But global warming is something the scientific community speaks with near-unanimity about. Cataclysmic change, many will tell you, is on the way, be it next year or in a millennium or two.
That's not to accuse The Day After Tomorrow of being a responsible environmental text. It's a Hollywood blockbuster -- brash, dazzling and, beneath its "science," quite silly.
The film opens with a scan of bad weather around the world -- mega-hail in Japan, blizzards in New Delhi and ceaseless rain in New York.
