Burton Snowboards Switches to SolidWorks 3D Mechanical Design Software

Burton Snowboards, the world's leading snowboard manufacturer, has switched to SolidWorks(R) 3D mechanical design software for all of its new binding designs. The company has also purchased SolidWorks COSMOSWorks(R) design analysis software to ensure bindings keep riders safe and performing at their potential.

The company's bindings division switched to SolidWorks software this summer after engineers found they could design parts faster with SolidWorks than with other software. Engineers also discovered that SolidWorks designs regenerated more quickly and offered superior surfacing features.

"We've always liked SolidWorks' intuitive user interface and the wide array of embedded features, but the new, exponential improvements in processing efficiency put us over the top," said Greg Dean, leader of Burton's design engineering group. "SolidWorks lets us accomplish more designs faster, meaning we can deliver better products in the hands of our riders in record time."

SolidWorks and COSMOSWorks will increase Burton efficiency across all phases of the design process from conception through prototyping. The company will use COSMOSWorks to ensure critical bindings parts can withstand the beating that snowboarders deliver in endless hours on the slopes, in halfpipes and on jumps, rails, and other obstacles.
